My grandpa was in WWII as a combat infantryman he has passed and I have his military stuff that I have been researching I have found answers to everything except this patch. I can not upload a pic of it due to the file being too large. It has what appears to be a key in the upper right (gold key) and a red key bottom left corner with red, gold and white stripes in the top left and bottom right. Please help!
I'm having difficulty envisioning that patch. You can reduce the size of the image by using this Simple Image Resizer, resize online images without losing quality It would also be helpful to post images of the other things you have. They might help some of our more knowledgeable members give you more information. You might start by giving us his name. BTW welcome to the forum.
Thank you. His name was Willard Harmon from Salisbury, MO. He was in the 8th,9th and 89th infantry if I'm understanding correctly.
The 8th Infantry was 4th Infantry Division, 9th Infantry was 2d Infantry Division, while the 89th Infantry was a Separate regiment and never served overseas. None of their unit insignia looks like you describe...a photo would really help. What was his middle name and/or year of birth?
Please feel free to email the image to the address in my signature, I'll be happy to post it for you.
Hi Lisa, I've run several searches for key words, and a google search for the image itself, but I've not found anything. I could easily be wrong, but the patch does not feel like a military patch to me. There stitching seems a bit sloppy, especially in the center and with some stripes, and the central fleur-de-lis (if that's what it is), seems off. It appears to be something attached to a golf shirt for style. Hopefully I'm wrong, but it doesn't read military to me for some reason.
Thank you for your time and hard work. I'm sorry for this! It was with his military stuff so I assumed it was military related. Thanks again!
Lisa, please don't take my opinion as definitive. I'm far from an authority on military unit logos & patches. It could very well be military, and I'd keep looking into the patch on some level until you have a definitive answer. This was just my gut feeling, and I could easily be wrong, or maybe just hungry!
