I think the USA could have done better. Much better.

We're certainly not where the EU is right now, not yet anyway, but give us a month and we'll see.

We're doing very well compared to Europe. One thing that confuses the statistics is "number of confirmed cases." Those numbers are a fantasy because nobody has enough test kits or very accurate test kits. The only people getting tested are the very seriously ill. People with mild/moderate symptoms of respiratory illness are not even considered for the rationed testing. We're producing more tests and doing more testing, so it appears we have more "confirmed cases."

The only accurate statistic is deaths per million of population due to C19. USA is 7.67 deaths per million. UK: 18.47 deaths per million. Belgium: 37.73 deaths per million. France: 38.9 deaths per million. Spain: 145.6 deaths per million. Italy: 178.37 deaths per million. The situation in Europe is much more grim than here.

The Trump administration should be commended for how well we are doing compared to Europe. There's no telling how the 3rd world is doing, they have no infrastructure to even separate C19 from other respiratory illnesses. China has expelled all foreign journalists and is lying through their teeth about the spread of the disease and deaths due to it.

When my friends and neighbors stop telling me it's a hoax, conspiracy or over reaction I'll breathe easier. But I'm not holding my breath.

Considering we're all (hopefully) following the shelter in place guidelines I'd like to offer a suggestion of something I have been adhering to lately. Exercise is important especially now with the sedimentary lifestyle.

I now leave all alcoholic beverages in the basement.
When the need arises I must walk two flights of stairs to the liquor cabinet. I've dropped five pounds and don't get winded near as much as when I started this regiment.

Well...That falls under the heading of "Well...Duh". Each of the named European nations has a far greater population density than the US.

Also...What exactly has Trump done? It's the Governors, medical workers, etc. that should be praised not Trump.

Perhaps, while we are at it, we should give Trump a gold medal for spelling his name correctly.

What has he done? He shut down travel from China early, then despite great criticism, from Europe. He did this while dems could only scream RACIST, RACIST, RACIST!
He mobilized a very good task force early, providing ventilators and PPE and shutting down export of said equipment.
We did a lot more and better yet, we did it early, far earlier than say, Europe.
In consequence, we have less fatalities.
The political opposition fought every single step of this, until they began backtracking...
You know what I like best? He left the actual lockdown rules to individual states, which is something you would not see from the left. Rural states with less problems have less or no legal restrictions, while states with heavy populations (and more risk) have greater prohibitions and even legal prohibitions.

The Stay at Home program is getting tighter. A good thing IMO. Parking areas at trailheads and parks closed last week. That led to a huge increase in foot traffic on the trail behind my house. Then signs went up, crowds went away sand it's safe for us to stay home and walk again. Only danger now is back to normal ones. Falling trees and cougars. I do miss seeing all the young ladies go by on their fitness runs. sign.jpg

Since the whole world is at war against the invader I've been seeing this pandemic as WWIII.

I get my flu shot every year but I've had the seasonal flu several times and got over the help of some meds to clear the upper respiratory stress. This flu attacks the lungs. I did the math with the data available and calculated that if I get this flu I have would have had a better chance of survival as an infantry man on D Day.

New York state has more known cases than any other country in the world.

    ....excepting, of course, the USA.

If the administration is doing such a bang up job would someone explain to me why the US is the most infected country in the world, and has fatalities equal to the next 4 countries combined?
