I once read that any messages from any government is propaganda. As our president likes to say sometimes, "A lot of people don't know that".

A lot of people do not know when a tornado is coming...They rely on the Government(National Weather Service) to tell them that.

    Not propaganda.

We are in the midst of a 'referendum' election, and current events always play a exaggerated effect on the news and election. The Korean war killed a second full term for Truman, the Vietnam war did the same for LBJ and the Iran hostage crisis scuttled a second term for Carter.

    Go hard you good things!

    State best complying with lockdown

A survey by news.com.au found an overwhelming 95 per cent of respondents in the Northern Territory claimed they are complying with lockdown restrictions – and it shows.

No. If you're infirm in some way you should stay locked down. Working age people almost universally go through it without symptoms bad enough to even seek medical care. Why can't they go back to work?

You fail to grasp the most basic fact in all of this. Lockdowns don't prevent anyone from getting ill. They only spread out the illness over months instead of weeks. The peak has passed, now it's time to open up. You heartless liberals will destroy tens of millions of families just because you are on a pension or a "work from home" job and unaffected. Terrible!

Will you please make up your mind...
First, you say they don't prevent anyone from getting ill. Then, you say they don"t prevent anyone from dying. Then, it is back to ill. Back to dying. And, now back to ill.

Pick one and stick with it.

Further, they only "assume" that it does not prevent any infections. This is done because if they do not, all those mathematical prediction formulas blow up.

Speak for yourself...My area is still going up, and has not peaked yet.

I am neither on a pension, nor do I work from home. I work with the general public, and am at risk to possible exposure every day. I would be thankful for a "paid" vacation, and the ability to shelter in place. However, I am considered "essential", thus I do not have that luxury. So, all the book reading, model building, and internet surfing will have to wait.

Can anyone guarantee a otherwise young and healthy 'worker' never comes into contact with some one at risk or another otherwise healthy person who in turn comes in contact with a at risk person? Because public transportation in my area is no longer available I must rely and others to pick up groceries and prescriptions, or have items delivered by Amazon, which also I have indirect contact with every one they interact with.

We can safely go back to work when we test enough people per week, but the Trump administration has made no secret they do not regard testing as vital or even necessary to reopen. We also need to contact trace those who contract the virus, but can not effectively do this for the relatively few people we do test.

Trump says he is effectively a war time president, really? In WWII the federal government gave you two 'choices', enter the military or do war related work.

    Does Trump do this? No.

He brags about the DPA, yet will not fully employ it. It is like ordering a company to make 10 million rifles, then tell a bullet maker to make however many rounds they feel like. Madness

You want to put people back to work, fully enable the DPA in all related areas. Test kits, reagents, swabs, PPE, cleaning products etc. Hire and train people to give and evaluate those tests, hire people to unclog the unemployment applications, Hire people to do the contact tracing the tests point out. Hire people to act as couriers for those locked down. Hire people to disinfect high traffic areas like the old WPA. Have the federal government buy all the meat, milk and produce that used to go to restaurants, schools and other mass vendors, give it to food banks. Hire people to to replace those who volunteer now, but are on lockdown, Hire people to then distribute that food to those on lockdown.

There is a lot the federal government can do, or even provide the money to the states to do these things, but Trump is either too lazy or too dense to act like 'a wartime president'
    '.

For the record, yes I am on a pension (SSDI to be precise), no I don't think I am heartless to be concerned about the spread of a deadly virus, and I am a registered republican in Texas since my first election in 1980.

I've estimated that those refusing to wear masks while shopping is costing my town $7000 / week to be added to the economy. The town loses $700n/wk in taxes. Multiply that buy 10,000 towns, a number I pulled from my gut, and that's $7,000,000 in lost small town revenue. Cotsco has been doing the right thing to fill the store.

Ummm...Because they could kill a family member.

Just look at my county's youngest victim.. Aged 30 with diabetes & asthma. Had not left his home in weeks. He died of COVID-19. After he died, family members were tested, several were positive with no symptoms.

Belasar, you're usually so sensible, so I'm surprised at you. The simple fact of the matter is that it's far easier to quarantine the tiny population at risk, than the entire population. Can you imagine the outcome if we had spent the money we have quarantining the entire population, on just those at risk? "Stay away from Grandma and cousin Bill with his diabetes." We would have a far better outcome. Remember, we have to open anyway, eventually, and all the objections aren't going to change the outcome. Nothing changes. Not a single infection will be prevented. In the end, the ONLY protection we can use for those at risk is for the healthy people to get the virus, carry the antibodies and create that herd immunity. A vaccine is not even on the horizon.

If you doubt this, looks at the mortality stats for Sweden vs other countries in western Europe. The lockdowns haven't changed a damned thing, except that not having the lockdowns means that Sweden doesn't have a 30% unemployment rate along with a pandemic.

.....for 2 decades it was 3.85 per year--even the anti-American/anti-%$^&% SPLC says so --you can't get a more credible anti-%$%^& source
....where's your link for 39 in 2018, even though it doesn't matter
....and--that still doesn't add up to 10 per year ....?!

I gave it you back on page 30...

However, you were so dead set on making an arse of yourself, you responded to my post TWICE...Just making an arse of yourself and not responding to the 2018 data in the link.

Stillb you never bothered to clink on the
    anti-American/anti-%$^&% SPLC link.

So how is your "ID-10T Error" my fault?

We're going to visit our daughter SIL and grand kids 40 miles away tomorrow. My daughter is laid off but making $40/wk more on unemployment. Husband works a tech job from home. Kids have been learning from home for 2 months. No exposure in 4 week. Even so, we'll all be wearing masks. Not sure about hugging. This Sunday is mothers day.

Prez said on tv today that he want's to open schools in the fall. He said kids are amazing with their ability to not get the virus. He said teachers under 60 should not teach. Bus drivers, nurses, cafeteria workers, and janitors over 60 are ok to expose themselves for $$. He also compared the pandemic to a prairie fire. Unstoppable. Gotta let it burn itself out. I'm glad he's got this all planned out.

Dr Brix did a pretty good shuck and jive* to keep her job.

    * Wikipedia - In African-American culture, Shuckin' and jivin' (or shucking and jiving) is joking and acting evasively in the presence of an authoritative figure.

You have pointed out Sweden before, who did not have a 'lockdown'. With respect isn't this something of a strawman?

Sweden has a population of 10.3 million, less than the number of people in the NYC metro area. Much of the country lies in the Arctic circle and same latitude as Greenland, we do not know how this affects the virus as it is a novel covid.

More to the point the head of the Swedish health effort (Anders Tegnell) conceded that the high fatality rate in Sweden came 'as a surprise to them'. A rate higher than its Nordic neighbors and some European countries that had some form of lockdown.
