Is there a bureau in Germany, similar to the British Public Records Office, where normal W.W.II German Army orders and battle reports are kept? No.9
Freiburg Archiv's. Archivs in Aachen and the Bundeswehr in Berlin. I believe one in Dresden and elsewhere in the eastern sectors
http://www.bundesarchiv.de/aufgaben_organisation/dienstorte/freiburg/ You will have to brush up on your German. The English site is not operational yet.
Thank you very much gentlemen, much appreciated. No Stev, I'm got going to attempt reading formal German armed only with tourist level knowledge. Now I know such places exist and where they are, I'll attempt to make contact with some English speaking Germans who may be interested in swapping information or trading respective 'PRO' look-ups? Mrs 9 is fluent in Austro-Deutsch having worked in Austria several years, but only has a limited interest in W.W.II and a very low boredom threshold. Ordinarily it might be a good idea to contact some universities, however, I imagine it's probably not a subject on their curricular? I'll preserver anyway. Many thanks, stand at ease No.9
bumping this thread, can anyone explain the policy or restrictions on getting info on German Luftwaffe or other service personnel records? do they still exist? With British/Commonwealth WW1 a lot is available but recently Ive looked for info on a couple of ww2 Wehrpass or soldbuchs I have but get a blank regarding access, a bit like RAF info. any help, thanks
