..wasn't Pearl Harbor the most known name? and had the ''most'' destruction in terms of believed ''importance'' = the ships? ..wasn't the Harbor ''older''/used long before the air bases/etc? therefore known to more for a longer period? .. I was lucky enough to be stationed there for 4 years in the mid 80s
Yea guess the attack on Oahu or Hawaii wouldn't be great.. I was more thinking of the fact that they targeted airpower on land and sea. And luckily someone had the great idea of having the US Carriers at sea on a weekend (first time 1941 I belive) Interesting to hear you were stationed there! My own military experienc is strictly landbased..
Ahh that makes one think.. the US Carriers where out of harms way, what if they had been out of Pearl, but close enough to at least counter attack the second wave from Kido Butai and to far away for the foes carriers to reach Lexington and Enterprise..
The Nagumo Kido Butai would have been thrilled to see our naval fighters and bombers barreling in on them. Remember, good carriers with no planes are bad carriers. The Turkey Shoot proved that.
