This ID card belongs to a friend of mine. I've never seen one like it before. It belonged to his Dad who's been long passed away. He has several artifacts from his Marine Corps service laying around his house. I recommend this this ID card and other items belonging to his Dad should be donated or placed "on loan" to the WW2 Museum in New Orleans for posterity and as a visual aid.
I guess what I should've said that obviously it's an ID card, but is this what military ID cards looked like in WW2? Or did all the services have their own card?
The Navy and USMC cards were almost identical, the only change was the service branch at the top. The Army & USAAC/USAAF were War Department identification cards. IIRC, about 1944-45, the changed to a more durable laminated one.
The hole in the ID card that I posted appears to not be universal then. I figure that it was done locally or individually and worn around the neck with the dog tags.
I worked in a place where we had to hang our ID cards on hooks when we went in. This might be something like that.
