Updated some old models

I should have bought a model to build while this “stay at home” order is in place. But I didn’t think of it before the hobby and craft stores closed. I suppose I could order a plane or ship on line, but for the time being I did some painting and added flags to some models that I had previously built. The submarine has been repainted to a certain extent and some additional painting on the battleship. Of course since the battleship was one of the first models that Revell produced in the early 1950’s, they never included the two rudders or any screws (propellers) with the kit.

 

Added a wooden base to this one. I didn’t line the two pins up across from each other because I needed the one to cover up a mistake. lol

 

A lot of times I use my own color schemes.

 

I have two models 1:32 Ferdinad and a Me 262 50 mm shooter-killer waiting to be done plus Red Barons triplane with the crew painted. I see I have time bit by bit to do them.

Kids do not do models. I bought 2 FW190A models, 3 Panther A´s, a couple of Stugs,, 2 Mustangs, 1 B17 and my master favourite Tomcat. I just love the aerodynamics.
Guess how much. the smaller were 2 euros, Tomcat 5 euros.

Looks like a massive work to do but I look forward to it.

I still have a Catalina made by my father and me ca 1972. I still keep it my most prized possession. Your PT109 is a beauty.

 

I made a B-17 years ago (and damaged both my wrists shaking the silver paint pots - shit, that's my wanking hand!) But over several house moves it became progressively broken...So I wondered do I spend the time and money trying to fix it (only to have it damaged again in another move) or throw it out? I liked the 17 and decided that the third option was to put it near the air strip i'd created to park my aircraft, in pieces...made it look like a 17 that had run off the runway and was being used as a parts plane.

Was thinking if one of your ship/boats get damaged, you could get a soldering iron out and melt some damage into the hull...blacken the edges and then put in a fish tank as a sunken ship! Would look cool to have fish swimming around it...just a thought.

 

Quite possibly. But the B-17 unless completely useless should be repaired if possible? And if not then another build should be pursued. Easy for me to say eh? It’s a wonderful aircraft. Then there is always the option of a die cast. They are out there, quite detailed and well built but can be pricey depending on the scale. I have built and scrapped and built and scrapped models of all descriptions. My patience is really not into difficult builds anymore, but submarines are easy. Some people are just plain good at it, to be considered masters at it. I never fell into that category.
When my wife accidentally knocked my USS Arizona onto the floor, and as I love her, I forgave her. It was badly damaged and I had looked at it for a long time, so it found the garbage can. Unfortunately I own no fish tank. But thanks for the tip. And your runway I am sure looks all the better for the damaged bomber. And oh yes, when that paint settles, it does take a good shaking.

 

The silver B-17 looked streaky...so I had to apply about 4 coats to get an even "metal" consistency...never again! Yeah the 17 was already repaired, a couple of times...and it wasn't going to seamlessly be repaired again...I have/had many German bombers and UK bombers (I didn't have a Lancaster if you can believe that). A beautiful camouflage Wellington though...
I've never liked Diecast...looks too plastic to me (even if its metal)...too glossy and some parts bigger or beefy-er than real life (because they can't diecast very small pieces) - The over all scale of things to other things is always out. Maybe just an aircraft nerd can spot it...but its there. Plus anyone can buy a ready made model...there's far more pleasure in seeing something you yourself have made. I'm sure you know what i'm talking about. - How can you show off your model if you just bought it?

Difficult has never appealed to me...always the model I want and good casting with minimum "flashing" to cut off...accuracy is what i'm looking for...the difference between an average model and an excellent model is usually in the paint job - with weathering etc. The build should be the same for everyone...the paint job sorts the wheat from the chaff.
I do draw and paint anyway...so I am quite comfortable painting my models and doing an accurate/good job.

I've had about half of my models chewed to bits by my Dingo when she was a pup...She chewed half the house as well! I love my baby (err Dingo) so I knew it was my fault and to just get over it...learn to let go of earthly things (Gee that was deeper than I meant).
