DB72312A-C15E-452C-9A66-D96F73C1E6B8.jpeg My father,John McGarrity was drafted in January 1942 he went to basic training, then on to Ft Riley Kansas. 1st Cav horse cavalry since the US was half horse and half mechanical at the beginning of the war. He only spent about 6 months in the Horse Cav. He was then sent to Iran via a ship called the Rhona later on the war to be sunk by a German missle. Any info on the US WW2 horse cav would be appreciated. Thanks

No sweat. You should check out the sources at the bottom for possible targets of opportunity.

I have a book by a cavalryman who found himself mechanized during WW II.
BTW, the US Coast Guard mounted some Coasties to patrol our beaches.
Some American soldiers were mounted in Sicily on a temporary basis. It was recommended to expand the effort but that came to pass.

Reminds me of the famous old Maulden cartoon of an old cavalry sgt. shooting his jeep after it broke an axel.
