I had read that the US Navy had retrieved an unexplored Type 93 off of Cape Experance on Guadalcanal, Can anyone substantiate this, and when Also does anyone know if "War Plan Orange" had been widely disseminated or had it been stolen. I ask this because during my reading authors seem to give the impression that the Japanese knew about Naval plans and personal. Although not much of "war plan orange" was not followed very closely.
The Chicago Tribune published a version of War Plan Orange (edited) shortly before Pearl Harbor. It was big news, so I doubt anything like that level of leak had occurred before then. I assume the "Type 93" you're speaking of was a "Long Lance" torpedo?

Thanks OP, then the Navy should have had it torn down and studied by the time that Cartwheel began. So I wonder why the "fleet" did not no its capabilities. Admiral (PUGS) Answorth did not seem to know anything about the Type 93... But my question is answered. thanks All
I believe it was mid-late 1943, however, the technological intelligence was not fully disseminated until March, 1944. The basic strategy was not that hard to predict - and both sides envisioned fighting on large battle to decide the war. As technology progressed in the 20th Century, the site of the battle moved further and further away from Japan proper. War Plan Orange was followed, but only to a point. Since Wake Island had been lost to the Japanese, the Gilberts were invaded in it's place(the fleet had grown far larger than originally envisioned, as such Wake made little sense in reoccupying). The Marshall invasion was entirely according to War Plan Orange. After the successful invasion of the Marshalls, for many reasons, the Pacific War greatly diverges from the WPO - Upto and including the Invasion of Japan proper, which was an anathema to the planners of Orange. Your confusing the "Victory Program", with "War Plan Orange", WPO was never leaked to the Press.
War Plan Orange had been superceded by the Rainbow plans. (Colors were assigned to "enemies" and when it became obvious we'd be fighting more than one enemy "rainbow" was the code for a wider spectrum.) Rainbow 5 was the plan most closely adhered to. It's WPL-46 or Plan Dog in the Pacific. If you want to wade through that document I can post a link, I have the meat of it on a page. But remember, "no plan fully survives first contact with the enemy."
