New here not that great with history.
Apparently lots of warships WW11 would dock in Sydney Harbour Australia in the mid 40's.
Basically my grandmother (now deceased) took it to the grave who my dads real father was. I saw a photo of him when I was a teenager, he looked european with dark hair and in the khaki green collared army jacket and cap in the war portrait.
So I am looking for I guess any European ships or links to see professional portraits of , docked in Sydney around August 1943.
Thought I'd give it a shot.
A $290 YDNA test gave me nothing so I'm back to the drawing board.

Have you contacted historical societies in Sydney? You have to remember that taking pictures of shipping was tantamount to espionage, so you might not find any pictures. Also freighters are rather mundane, not as sexy as warships. AND you'd have to find the crew lists for the ships and then pictures to match up with the names. Sounds like an epic hunt. Good luck to you.

Welcome aboard, Mell, and good luck with your search. You mentioned European ships, but I hope you are including American; they would be a large share of the foreign ships visiting Australia at that time.

Did the local papers have listings of ships arriving and departing? You'll probably find those papers on microfilm now.
