Help? To find particular war ship army

New here not that great with history.
Apparently lots of warships WW11 would dock in Sydney Harbour Australia in the mid 40's.
Basically my grandmother (now deceased) took it to the grave who my dads real father was. I saw a photo of him when I was a teenager, he looked european with dark hair and in the khaki green collared army jacket and cap in the war portrait.
So I am looking for I guess any European ships or links to see professional portraits of , docked in Sydney around August 1943.
Thought I'd give it a shot.
A $290 YDNA test gave me nothing so I'm back to the drawing board.

 

Welcome aboard, Mell, and good luck with your search. You mentioned European ships, but I hope you are including American; they would be a large share of the foreign ships visiting Australia at that time.

Ok yes, I had a feeling to look at American.
What should I type for a search? Maybe American warships Sydney Harbour 1943 or what is the "term" /word I should use? Warships or docked etc? Anything helps always appreciated for any help offered thank u all.

 

If he was wearing a uniform, maybe you can post the picture, we may be able to tell you what country at least...

 

By "khaki green collared army jacket and cap" do you mean something like this?

 

The cap had a front part like a

Oh I don't know why the rest isn't there

The hat is same , softer but like a baseball cap viser bit at the front

 

Update, found marriage cert from Queensland Australia, says
Soldier named JOHN RALPH MINNETTE
and that his usual place of residence was
A.S.E AUSTRALIA?? This marriage cert was dated 18th October 1943 in Queensland

 

Woohoo!

 

Now what? How do look for his base/portrait?
