Looking at Ken Touts accounts of Operation Totalize I note that there were 20 claims for tanks/SPGs but when I try to match them with "A fine night for tanks" and "Tank" I can only find between 13 and 17. The overall total included 5 Tigers (3 by Sgt Gordon and Lt Harris in the same tank, one more later in the day by another crew), 4 Panthers (no details), 6 PzIV ( 3 to Cpl Giles and 2 to Sgt Finney, with others credited to Lt James and Maj Skelton). 5 spg (Cpl Snowden, Capt. Fox and the tanks of C Sqn all claim). Does anyone have more details about this units claims on the 8 August?
Thanks Drew. My mistake for Harris read James. Reading further found Boardman definitely claimed to have brewed up a PzIV on this date. He possibly claimed a share in one of Ekins' Tigers.stating that an AP round stopped the Tiger and Ekins in James tank hit it while it was stopped - Ekins doesn't agree. I still can't see any claims for Panthers in any of the references. Possibly they were shared between other crews. regards Keith
