Hey everyone! New member here. I have been collecting M1 helmets my whole life. I have been trying to attribute this helmet to an individual or at least a unit since I acquired it. I have not had any luck. Does anyone have access to rosters for Separate Tank Battalions? I am looking for a Captain with the laundry number C-4296. I know laundry numbers are notoriously bad for research, but I think a rank and a connection to armor helps tremendously. Thanks in advance!
Tank Battalions, like most US Army units, did not have "rosters". They had Company Morning Reports, which tracked the movement to and from units. Occasionally, the battalion AAR's include officer rosters with OSN, but you would have to go through quite a number to try to track this down. The other option, if he was RA, is to search the last name starting with "C" and the last four digits of the OSN as "4296" in the Official Army Register's, but my quick search in the 1945 edition produced bupkis. I think you are looking for the needle in a haystack,
No one with a number sequence 4296 and a last name beginning with C shows up in either the 1939 or 1943 National Guard Registers.
