Just got back from my orthopedic specialist and said pretty much what my PTs and OTs said its my muscles the hamstrings have brink and have to stretch back out. Said that I need a lot of physical therapy and that it could be a year of rehab, I going to try to get that to six months. I have things I want to do and can't do that without getting back on my feet. Well I'm going try try harder to get my legs working right at least one will make things easier, at this point either one will do, but I'm hope for the right since it's my primary leg.
I find this funny: "Ok, Ok. So we don't hesitate. Now, do we really have to blacken the bones of 200,000 Japanese civilians?"
On August 9, the day the Nagasaki bomb was dropped, Truman received a telegram from Samuel McCrea Cavert, a Protestant clergyman, who pleaded with the president to stop the bombing “before any further devastation by atomic bomb is visited upon her [Japan’s] people.” Two days later, Truman replied, “The only language they seem to understand is the one we have been using to bombard them. When you have to deal with a beast you have to treat him as a beast.” Looking back, President Truman never shirked personal responsibility for his decision, but neither did he apologize. He asserted that he would not use the bomb in later conflicts, such as Korea. Nevertheless, given the same circumstances and choices that confronted him in Japan in 1945, he said he would do exactly the same thing. Harry S Truman’s Decision to Use the Atomic Bomb (U.S. National Park Service)
I guess he was pulled to many directions in warfare? President Truman had four options: 1) continue conventional bombing of Japanese cities; 2) invade Japan; 3) demonstrate the bomb on an unpopulated island; or, 4) drop the bomb on an inhabited Japanese city. In May 1945, Truman had formed the Interim Committee, a committee to advise the president about matters pertaining to the use of nuclear energy and weapons. The Committee’s first priority was to advise on the use of the atomic bomb. After prolonged debate, the president received the Committee’s historic conclusion: “We can propose no technical demonstration likely to bring an end to the war. We can see no acceptable alternative to direct military use.” Truman did not seek to destroy Japanese culture or people; the goal was to destroy Japan’s ability to make war. At the time, the president seemed conflicted over his decision. The day after the Hiroshima bomb was dropped, Truman received a telegram from Senator Richard B. Russell of Georgia, encouraging the president to use as many atomic bombs as possible on Japan, claiming the American people believed “that we should continue to strike the Japanese until they are brought groveling to their knees.” Truman responded, “I know that Japan is a terribly cruel and uncivilized nation in warfare but I can't bring myself to believe that because they are beasts, we should ourselves act in that same manner. For myself I certainly regret the necessity of wiping out whole populations because of the ‘pigheadedness’ of the leaders of a nation, and, for your information, I am not going to do it unless absolutely necessary.” It was heavy burden to bear. Speaking of himself as president, Truman said, “And he alone, in all the world, must say Yes or No to that awesome, ultimate question, ‘Shall we drop the bomb on a living target?’” Every president since Harry Truman has had that power. None has exercised it.
The atomic bombs were just a big fire bomb insofar as strategy went. We knew very little about any possible "fallout". The only people who had died to date from exposure to highly radioactive material had been in close proximity to the metals.
Lets face it Japan attacked the USA with a sneak attack and its been proven nothing but total annihilation would end the War they started. Truman ended it. Not to be ' snippy' but Pearl Harbor stuff should be in the Pearl Harbor shoulda, coulda, woulda thread.
Better to blacken the bones of 200,000 Japanese civilians in the two atomic bombings than to suffer the millions of projected casualties to both Allied and Japanese (both military AND civilian) that would have surely happened if the invasions would've taken place and the subsequent campaigns to finish the job conventionally would've been waged.
They have very nice products, I have one of theirs and one from a company called “Witty Wings”, both die casts. I don’t know if they are even in business anymore. Suppose I should look it up. But in regards to Hobby Master, they have wonderful aircraft, but like many other products, they have gotten more expensive, much more, or so it seems, since I purchased my model Skyhawk aircraft about three years ago.
Yes, I am sure that many mothers and fathers, sisters and brothers, wives, children and girlfriends of the time, were more than happy to see the bombs in mention dropped on Japan.
Two uncles, by marriage, were scheduled to land in Coronet. They might not have been around to tell the tale if it had gone down as planned. Along with many, many other people.
Witty Wings ceased production in 2014. I believe JC Wings & Herpa Wings got most of the molds. If you think Hobby Master is expensive, don't look at the JC or Herpa prices.
I'm really ecstatic, when I'm really ecstatic when I started going down I could only get in my wheelchair from the last step of the stairs. I wasn't able to get in my wheelchair from the floor I've been exercising more and the PT has been working on my leg muscles. I was able to get in my wheelchair from the floor today I'm really happy about that. I don't care what the orthopedic doctor said I'm not going to be in this chair for a year. I'm going for six months at most or less. Got to get moving around enough to get to my models on the far side of the room, lol have to work on my Brewster buffalos ha ha ha
Had my PT session yesterday the guy didn't have me do the usual exercises and had me use the walker to stand and do some leg exercises and then had me take some steps. Now it's my arms holding me up not my legs so taking a step was hard but I managed three and then after a breather three more. Not sure I can try it on my own. Looking forward for my next session going to try to get a little bit farther like four or five steps next time. Everybody stay safe and healthy and let's hope we get this stupid covid licked by next year hopefully by summer or sooner
