I was researching the NA 16 actually wanted to see how different it was to the T6 Texan as it was its predecessor. As I was looking came across this article about the wirraway which was based on the NA16 a pilot on a recon patrol spotted a Japanese fighter and dropped down and shot it the article said his angle of attack was not a type most pilots would favor but he managed to shot it down with a short burst, the pilot returned to base and claimed he shot down a zero. A confirmation was received but the plane would be later identified as a Ki43 the pilot was killed by a shot to the head. The article also explained this was the first and only kill for the wirraway thru the war.

The boomerang that was to be a superior fighter developed from the wirraway officially claimed not even one kill thru the war. In another article it said the guns and firing system suffered from the tropical humidity that caused the gun system to fail constantly. On two occasions pilots were able to creep behind an enemy plane for a perfect kill, but their guns wouldn't fire and they had to break off and run for home as they now were completely defenseless. I know moisture caused lots of gun system failure but I thought they had figured out how to overcome that like wasn't the taping of the gun ports suppose to reduce that problem? And as for the electrical contacts a type of grease or lube that can conduct a connection could have protected the contacts from corrosion and prevented electrical failur but I read that they had lots of problems just getting regular supplies of even oil and grease so sometimes they just didn't have everything the ground crews needed to make the planes 100 percent. One of the reasons Australia started all kinds of industries as to be able to supply everything they needed as overseas supplies were sometimes slow in coming as both the USA and the U.K. We're trying to supply their own armies as well as the soviets and all other allied nations. Like the US supplied equiptment in small number to various South American countries to help patrol and protect the South American coast and to hunt down and destroy German Uboats. Mexico sent their Aztec eagle squadron to Europe to help in the war effort flying P47s they were just starting to transfer to the P51 when the war ended they received a few but mostly still had the P47 which they were allowed to fly back to their own country like the Polish and Czechs the British allowed them to fly their spits back home. They recently found one of those spits in Czech intact don't know what the condition was in the backyard of a farm the pilot was a farmer before the war and brought the plane home when the soviets were making them get rid of everthing western made such as the planes that Czech donated most of them to Israel this guy put it in his back yard and made it into a display in the middle of a garden.
