Hey Pg, apparently your history teacher doesnt watch the History Channel, Discovery Channel, A&E etc etc etc.

Is he a liberal? if so then   and

If you also want truth, read SOLDAT, and Panzer Commander for the ground forces. For truth in the air-read The Blonde Knight of Germany, and the book about JG26. For truth under the sea read Shooting The War and Iron Time. For truth for the Waffen SS read The Last Knight of Flanders, which is a great book written about my friend and Knights Cross Recipient-Herrn Remy Schrijnen.

Carl, I'm not sure if my teacher is a liberal, but I'm sure he has his head up his ass. Also I've already read soldat and panzer commander, but I will look for those other titles you mentioned. The last knight of Flanders sounds interesting.

Ahh ha ha ha ha, I LIKE the way you describe mr leftwing liberal. Most leftwingers DO have their heads up their asses--or someones...

Last Knight of Flanders is a well done book by Allen W. Brandt. You will enjoy the book especially when you read about my friend Remy. If you think he sounds modest in his accoomplishments--he is.

He earned his RKT in an action that kept him behind Russian lines--wounded 5 times and was by hisself.

He conservitively is estimated to have killed over 100 Russian Infantry, and somewhere to the tune of 17++ T-34 and JS-1 tanks--by himself. The man is even more remarkable in real life and I hope to get a chance to visit him again next year.

After reading your post I'm ready to go out and buy the book right now, but I have no money on me and I can't drive yet.

Mmmmmm... maybe I could take my bike, oh wait, it has a dam flat tire. Well I'd walk but borders would be closed by the time I get there. So I guess I'll have to wait till the weekend. I don't know if I can last that long after what you told me about that book.

Just like in Saving Private Ryan I saw German soldiers (who are suppossed to the better soldiers in WW2) get annaliated, I know there were 'sub-standard' static troops as well as elite troops but in almost every scene the Germans do something stupid like leave an obvious approach undefended.

What is everyone elses oppinion on this matter?

Further more I don't think Band of Brothers is a good as was expected...are my expectations too high? I just think that the Americans have made another 'film' where they come out on top unscratched. Although I have liked most of the fight scenes, they are extremely realistic and cool what I would like too have seen is the German perpesctive to show how the Airborne look from the 'other side'.

My opinion on how hollywoodland portrays almost all German soldiers is a buncha B Ess. If all German soldiers fought like bumbling stooges, we would have whipped them to capitulation in a month in 1939!

Apparently, hollywoodland has never heard of 7,300+++ Knights Cross Recipients, and around 25,000 German Cross in Gold recipients--just for starters.

Its not as bad in BoB, but still its not good either. In SPR I kept on seeing german after german get killed, while the GIs come thru unscathed most of the time. My major problem with BoB is in Ep.3 when the German panzers retreat at the sight of 4 or 5 shermans with men standing outside of it firing the 50 cal. That was he biggest load of bs I saw during the all the episodes. Those german tanks would have ripped to shreds those shermans. One thing with BoB that shows that they are a little objective is during the market garden epsoide, is a battle see in which the germans are winning and suffer fewer loses then the Americans.

See, I wouldn't pick up on the 251 being in service at the wrong time-I just love the show. The events portrayed in it are all from the minds of those who were there and those that carried out such things....

Everybody makes mistakes....yes you are right though, with the research needed to put a project like this together, they could get everything right...

The only thing I did not like about Band of Brothers was how they portrait us, like total dumps... At least in Spielberg's Saving Private Ryan the butchery is balanced; at the beginning of the film thousands of GIs are killed and at the end a lot of Germans are killed.

But in Band of Brothers we seem as stupids! The German soldiers run on open field with a machine gun firing at them! Beside, they can never hit anything and the GIs are all bloody snipers! And about snipers... the German snipers always pick the worst places to hide and to act, so a stupid average GI can kill them easily... I think that is not realistic at all. I also suposse that some two StuGs and a Jagdpanther plus infantry would run away of some five Shermans... And that the Fallschirmjäger defending Carentan would be so easily smashed...

Maybe in reality it was 20 Shermans, where they gonna get 20 Shermans?
