Hi A/ the only thing with Ben Stiller in it that I ever saw that was a good movie, was when he was in: Next of Kin, which also had the now late, Patrick Swayze and also Liam Neessen and also has Michael J. Pollard as the movies "comedy relief". Currently, watching a mini marathon of Bait Car on True TV. Nothing else on thats worth a darn.
I missed him in "Next of Kin." It must have been a small part. I liked that movie too. Going to have to Netflix that one now. He did a good job in "Dodgeball" in my opinion, that is, if you are a fan of such subject matter. "Something About Mary" was pretty good too. Stiller cranked out too many movies in a short time, and not all fell under the "quality" category.
Hi A/ in Next of Kin, he was that Mob Leaders Son who gets killed by Adam Baldwin-the jealous right hand man. The guy who played the Mob Leader-was Andreas Katsulas(SP?)-I always did like him and thought that that was a perfect role for him to play. Did you know that that was an early movie for Bill Paxton (one of Swayzes Brothers in that film, the younger one who also gets murdered by the Mob leaders right hand man. Liam Neesen played the older Brother-which I thought he did a darn great job of doing so. I can't think of Swayzes wifes name at the moment but, she was in the TV serie, Mad About You-w/ Paul Reiser and was a series I enjoyed watching ;-)) The second of the Samurai Trilogy is: Duel At Ichijoji Temple-was pretty darn good IMO. The first movie you see the Toshiro Mifune character, being somewhat rough around the edges, but in this one you see him starting to become more refined. Im awaiting the arrival of the third movie. While waiting, this evening I watched a great early James Cagney movie, called: The Mayor of Hell. It was excellent. So if any of you out there are Cagney fans, this movie is a must, and the only way I know you can get it, is you have to buy the 3rd vol of 4 vols-of Warner Gangster Classics-boxed sets that have been released.
I caught it last night on the catch up showing, annoyingly compulsive viewing dammit! they got me again............. and I said I would be strong
Carl, that was a very young Helen Hunt that played Swayze's wife in that movie. I must have not noticed Ben Stiller and Bill Paxton before. It's been years since seeing it in it's entirety, so I reckon it's time to bump it up on Netflix now. I was reading on imdb that the movie wasn't well received with viewing audiences, but I like it. It depends on what part of the country you are from and how you were brought up to make it appeal to you I guess.
Hi A/ thanks, that's her. I don't know why I couldn't think of her name but, I also enjoyed her with Paxton in Twister ;-)) It took me a few viewings to recognize Paxton and I wouldn't have recognized Stiller had his character and name wasn't mentioned. I thought he had great potential because of this role. I didn't get to see this movie at the threaters, and first saw it circa late 2000 shortly after I got back from Germany. I had always liked Swayze but the only other films I had seen him in prior to Next of Kin, was Red Dawn and Road House. I thought he did an excellent job in those movies as well as Dirty Dancing-which ive never seen all the way through yet ;-)) Such a darn shame he passed away thanks to Cancer. A wasted talent.
Currently watching James Cagney and Edw G. Robinson in: Easy money. Not the best of their earlier movies but still is enjoyable.
I've been watching Robin Hood on BBCA (well, Season 1 on DVD) trying to catch up in the next few weeks as i've been recording all the new episodes. I must say its very well done, complete with English actors, with a little bit of historic context.
Just finished watching a Time Watch Special - - very good, always good to hear first hand accounts and I like the then and now pictures at the end.
Hi Musso, I have season 1 & 2 on DvD and the other three have been released. You can sometimes find both 1 & 2 seasons for sale at Wally World (aka) Wal-Mart for $5 each. Deep Discount DvD had them-last time I checked-for a little over $8 each season.
Can't get back in to edit so--just watched a Bogie classic earlier today-All Through the Night. Will be watching Akira Kurosawas: The Hidden Fortress, which has Toshiro Mifune in it.
Just and surprisingly saw and then bought at Wally-World (aka) Wal-Mart, the neo American Gangster Classic: "Dillinger" starring Ben Johnson and Warren Oates. Not bad fer five bucks.
Its my parents NetFlix account (and i don't think there are that many seasons? Maybe 2 on DVD, Season 3 on TV now?) so its not costing me a penny! Finished season 1 last night and will hopefully be getting the first 2 discs of Season 2 tomorrow if all goes to plan.
