I really like good spy movies. Really, really like.
But there has not been one worth its salt in decades, or so I thought.

Why on earth have I never heard about this movie before?
4 Star Rating. Not in my books. Much, much better. Gripping, steady, relentless tension, start to finish. Just the way it should be. [IMG]
MY KIND OF MOVIE! Not one second wasted, not one momentary avenue to escape. [IMG] Great, great stuff.

Watched "The Pacific" after getting it for Christmas, not a bad series at all with some likable characters in it for sure. Not as memorable as Band of Brothers but it's still a very good production.

Had two pizza and movie nights in a row this week with my mother: "American Beauty" yesterday and "Defiance" tonight!

Band of Brothers set the bar pretty high. Likely had it come first it might have had more impact.

"Inheritance" : the story of Monika Hertwig and her journey to accept the truth about her father, Nazi commander, Amon Goeth, who was portrayed by actor Ralph Fiennes in "Schindler's List." As part of Monika's search for information, she reaches out to Helen Jonas-Rosenzweig, a woman who had been enslaved by Monika's father during the war.

    Inheritance (2006/I) - Plot Summary

    Quite touching in many ways...

I watched "Sahara" the 1943 movie about an "incident" south of El Alamein. Just showed up on cable. It received 3 Oscar nominations and used Allied vehicles that were lent by a training group in the area. You get to see a M 3 Stuart close up as well as authentic small arms and proper dress, well on the US-Brit side. Apparently the Deutsch Armee were not as willing to spare any equipment for the film. Strange that .

I thought it interesting but a bit slow paced but my sweet wife of 50 years says I would find " The Road Warrior" slow. But I really enjoyed Battle Ground , which was rather slow but seemed appropriate.

Caught up with last nights BBC4 Chivalry and betrayal...the 100 years war...

perfidious Albion once more..Edward the third and son Edmund..Crecy,,caen...Gascony....all would never have happened if Longshanks..Edward the first had not seen off De Montfort at Evesham...the first battle in 200 years where noblemen were killed on purpose...stuff the chivalry...the 3 Edwards took Chivalry and like Henry fifths archers stuck 2 fingers up and instead won battles and wars....To see the French advancing knightly after failure of their crossbows into the killing ground at crecy....noblemen brought down by men of no significance...Archers...and later King John asking the English to send 100 of their best men to fight 100 of the best French knights in combat and getting short shrift...on your bike John....archers...loose...you play we will fight...

my dad took me to see it when i was just a kid. I don't think ive seen it since. till now. let me know if you find it cause i looked high and low with no luck. its on Amazon but for 68 US they can keep it. I finally found it on deep discount for 14 US plus shipping. but it was imported from Aus or NZ so it was in pal or secam. fortunatly I bought software years ago that converted it back to NTSC and burned it. got a good clean copy.

I just watched a Anonyma - woman in Berlin - it's about the rape of German women after the soviets enter berlin. It's kind hard to see what some of the soviets did to the women.. The story follows the main character who in a sense allows higher Soviet commanders to rape her inturn for the protection of her and her neighbours from other soviet soldiers coming in and raping the women.. So in some way she sells her body for protection and gifts.. It's kinda disturbing in a way that she allowed that to happen. At one point she had two different commanders at different times coming to her for sex, both unaware of eachother's pressence...

The story was originally written in the 50's by a German woman who chose to stay anonymous...It got such bad criticism and anger from the German people that the book was dropped from production..

It wasn't until just recently that a movie was made based on the book.. To this day it remains a bit contraversal.

In my opinion the movie was okey.. Tt's a bit refreshing to see the German perspective of the war...A rareity amongst ww2 films.
