Watching Day of the Jackal (again  ) the other day; loads of MP40's carried by French coppers and if I'm not mistaken the Jackal/Edward Fox himself is finished off at the end by one wielded by Lebel/Michael Lonsdale.

I saw Reach for the Sky (1956) in cable today, Douglas Bader's career. Amazing the number of Hurricanes still extant, even if in a somewhat sorry shape after so few years :(

Actual footage of the 15th Sept. '45 Victory flypast included!

Anyway, back to topic, the amount of Schmeissers in the few POW camp scenes is, shall we say, unexpected... ;)

You're absolutely right Blazkowicz, a genuine MP-40 was the weapon of choice for the mob hitman at the beginning of F/X. A true 80's classic where the gun had an eyebrow-raising suprise.

    Another part of MP-40 trivia:
Did you know that one of the Schmiessers in Saving Private Ryan belongs to a certain prominent member of these forums (not me)? According to the rumor, its the same gun carried by the Wehrmacht soldier running out of the gun bunker at the beach who gets mowed down. Its about a 3-second scene, but significant........

Anyone remember: Von Ryans Express? ;-D That movie must have set the record of any movie using German submachineguns (MP-38's and MP-40;s) to be exact. :-D

They were also overused in the movie: Hotel Berlin. Same goes for Lugars.

Also, if anyone is interested, the only movie I have ever seen that uses two Lugar Carbines is: Ball of Fire w/ Gary Cooper, Barbara Stanwyck, Dan Duryea, Charles Towbridge (SP?) and Dana Andrews. Not a war movie but a nice Gary Cooper vehicle.

BTW, Lugar Carbines are rare and expensive. Last time I checked on prices for them, they were $5,000. That was about 10 years ago.

Damn, just realised skunk works beat me to it, but here are the captures as proof. Shocked me when I noticed it:

Yeah, this was one of the glaringly incorrect appearances of der schmeisser. Nice close-ups stefan, we'll certainly use those, would you happen to have any full screen shots from that scene?

Those are the full screen shots, its during the jumpy 'documentary style' bit. 'Fraid that's the best I can do Peppy.

Ahh I see that you have full screen TV version rather than the widescreen format. It is certainly good enought to prove the mp40 is in the film, so thanks for the pics my friend.

Peppy >>> does not want mp40's formatted to fit my screen

Got to say, whe I first saw it flash up I sawthe weapon had a long stick mag for a fraction of a second and assumed it was an M3, then I caughtthe muzzle furniture and realised. Pretty random film to find one in thoug.

The movie " Operation Valkyrie " as the name is in Finland for the movie DVD. I suppose it was originally released for tv in Germany named " Stauffenberg". Lots of Mp40´s all through the movie...

Reread posts #1 and post #2 in this thread, it's a listing of films with the much overused-by-Hollywood german mp40 smg in it.

Just watched "Hannibal rising" and the first ten minutes shows quite excellent WW2 action ( especially compared to many films trying to be a WW2 film ).
( The film itself is also very well directed! ). Of course the MP40, but also several (?) T-34´s and also a Ju 87G....well, the Ju 87G does not shoot the cannons but the pilot decides to go for some kamikaze action instead. Definitely not Rudel in the cockpit!

O.K, I've read through the old posts indicated and was wondering if a full list of movies could be posted in this database, so as to avoid re-posting. I saw a partial (?) list of 15 in this thread. Is that the definitive list thus far? I saw that Otto was entering this info. and said it was over a 100 now?

The reason I inquire is because I am a pretty big movie buff and may be able to contribute to this project.

I was going to say Goldfinger, but I noticed Martian Bull had posted this in this thread http://www.ww2f.com/militaria/16296-mp-40-movie-pics.html

"And - I think I'm right on this one - the James Bond film, 'Goldfinger'. The old woman in the gatehouse of Goldfinger's swiss factory uses an MP40 to shoot up Bond's Aston Martin . . ."

I just wanted to add that Goldfinger himself was also firing a MP-40 torwards the end of the movie.
Old Lady with MP-40 48min. 48 seconds into the flick.
Goldfinger with MP-40 1 hour 38 min. into the flick.:smg:

    Regards, zippo

Just saw Crocodile Dundee II, early in the film, right after the Columbian drug lord shoots the kneeling guy. One of the gunmen who notice the photographer is holding an mp40.

    The gun is everywhere.
