Although I'm not familiar with that particular raid it sounds like 8th Group and their Mosquitos at work. Vice Air Marshall Bennett was the Group CO.

8 Group were Pathfinders and didn't carry out precision low-level attacks of this nature.
I'm struggling with this one  - I don't think it was a Mosquito 'op' at all....

No mossies. I'll give you a few hints: I am looking for a unit smaller than Group, bigger than Sqn. 
The commander was a BoB veteran during which he became an ace and had to bail out at least once. In that time he served in a Sqn which was home to many well known aces.
His succeses gave him a prolific nickname.
He survived the war and signed many aviation works of art.

Typhoons is correct. Wing no. and commander are not the ones who bombed the SD offices in Amsterdam. The wing had 192 Sqn 'under its wings'.
I am at work now, so I can't give you more dates when this wing flew similar missions. I do know they also bombed buildings in Rotterdam and Dordrecht in this period. They operated primarily in Holland at this time.
Care to bid again, or shall we go on and withdraw this one as unsellable???

We've got a winner!
You're right, Martin, Denys 'Kill 'em' Gillam commanded 146 Wing on the raid on the Amsterdam SD offices on 26 november 1944. As stated, two groups of planes flew diversive sorties to Amsterdam Harbour and Schiphol airfield in order to draw the Flak away from the main force. The third group, led by Gillam, went straight for the SD office. Besides the building itself, several nearby houses were hit as well, resulting in the death of 56 civilians. The SD lost 4 men.
The Dutch underground requested this raid, in the hope the SD would be hit when they were on their lunch-break and kill as many of them as possible. The Dutch Government rep. in London that was to OK the raid did so when Gillam said it would be 'a piece of cake'. The rep. Ok'ed the mission but insisted that it would be conducted on a sunday.
The SD building became unusable and another building on the nearby Apollolaan was taken over by the SD.
I have been collecting data on this for a while, together with some other raids on Amsterdam.
I hope in the not too distant future to post some short stories on these raids here...

Well, this was such hard work that I have made arrangements for the RAF Memorial Flight to borrow the RAF Museum's only surviving Typhoon for a special 59th Anniversary re-enactment. . Live rockets and ammunition have been located in an old hangar and an address to be attacked has been selected.
'Won't the owner mind ?  ' said the RAF Museum.
'No,no' I reassured them,'The owner's name is Oudshoorn and he's a real WW2 buff - he'll love it !'

Looks like I have got a date on 26 november!!!
I will have large identification panels out, pointing in the right direction. As I am not sure which address you mean, I have taken the freedom to inform the school that is now housed in that particular building. The students are wildly enthousiastic about this RAF Memorial Flight fly-by!!
I also informed my neighbours, yet they reacted with some reservation. Silly buggers. I told them this will be an experience of a lifetime! [img]tongue.gif[/img]
oh, and to give the whole thing more authenticity I will, for the first time ever, get into re-enactment myself and wear my long leather overcoat, complete with hat!!!

Back to the Bulge for a quick question - on December 23rd 1944 and subsequently, what tactic did the US 9th Air Force use against the Panzer forces surrounding Bastogne ?
