This firearms manufacturer refused to produce the "tommy gun' for lend-lease because it felt that the weapons reputation had been ruined in the '30's?

A guess here - was it Auto Ordnance who subcontracted the Lend Lease request to Savage Arms ?

Sorry Martin, Auto-Ordnance continued production with Savage after this firm declined to continue production.

Correct. Colt manufactured the 'tommy gun' in 1921 and 1922 under contract from Auto-Ordnance. The US Post Office was the first to government agency to purchase the SMG's and the FBI was the last agency to take them out of service in 1974.

Anyone ever hear about a Finnish? automatic pistol like the famed '45 which was actually built by license from Colt prior to WWII?

I don't think it was Finnish - they built the Lahti which had nothing in common with the Colt. Are you thinking of Norway? See

Maybe this will be hard. This manufacturer produced machete's dated 1943 and 1944 and some with USMC markings, however they were not WW2 issue. What is the name of the company?

Just one of the wonders of the Information Superhighway, Steve....
Here's something a little different. How many people died as a result of direct enemy action on the US mainland during WWII , when, and what caused their deaths ?
