C.Evans - you yourself said goodbye to OTF when he left on his boat ride. It will take some more time before he returns.

Ok, well then...

This castle in Austria became well-known as a scenery for a 60ies WWII movie.

Which castle, which movie?

Tis a Schloss. It is called Hohenwefen and it was the Schloss used in the movie: "Where Eagles Dare."

You can check out its website here: www.salzburg-burgen.at/inhalt_4.htm

I also have a nice wartime shot of this Schloss in the wintertime and was taken by a soldier serving in the 5th Gebirgsjager Division.

Ok, Carl is right, it is not Hohensalzburg, but Hohenwerfen.

Erich: 'Castle' or not, this is a grey area of English-German translation. The German words

Schloss - Burg - Festung (old: Feste) are translated to
palace - castle - fortress,

but the meanings of these words overlap. In German, Hohenwerfen is mostly attributed "Burg", sometimes "Festung", rarely "Schloss", but in the movie it was indeed "Schloss Adler". In English (check at google) it's a tie between "castle" and "fortress".

As it is NOT a cheat to know the answer and war movies are not my special subject, I ask you to continue, C.

Thank you Knightmove, heres another question.

How many of the "prisoners turn commandoes" in the Dirty Dozen, survived? and remember, one of the men who survived was not a former prisoner nor was the unit leader.

Simple enough: none. The only survivor, Wladislaw resp. Bronson, was not a former prisoner.

Sorry Knightmove. Wladislaw was the only surviving prisoner turn commando to survive. Jefferson got it after tossing the grenades into the air vents, then I think it was Posey and the short fellow who were shot and killed then the two unknown actors in the boat. John Cassevettes (Franco) was shot and killed while riding in the 2nd row of seats with Sgt Bowren (The MP Sgt)

Wladislaw was the only prisoner who made it out, along with Bowren the MP and Major Reismann.

I will relent my turn and give it to OTF.

No need to feel sorry, my bad. I have not even seen the movie yet, I misinterpreted a source. I just wonder that none of those who have seen the movie was able to answer instantly.

No problem. Also, I highly suggest watching it because your missing an excellent movie if you do not see it.

I recently picked it up on DVD and have watched it about 8 times in the last two months. This is one of those rare movies where the entire cast was perfect.

Hey Carl I appreciate it. What movie is about D-Day and has John Wayne. (joke)
In what movie is an American agent trying to get names of German spies in the American army.

Hi OTF, no problem and Ich Nicht answer your question--tis too hard for me.

In a way, I was hoping the question was one for the movie: "DEcision Before Dawn" which is rapidly becoming my very most favorite war movie.

BTW,
