Kai - you're wrong but I'll give it to you anyway for trying ! ( Plus the fact that Kennedy seems an oddly inflammatory subject - next time I'll pick someone less controversial, Eichmann maybe... )
The actual answer was that a number of Air Force Rescue boats were being sold off as surplus at Panama City, Fla. The production company bought them all, the president of the original Elco Boat Company ( makers of PT-109 ) provided original plans, the entire superstructure of each boat was carefully removed, and every feature of the original PT boats was faithfully reproduced to the last detail.
Now I thought everyone would have known that . Over to you, Kai...

Hi Martin; I don't know if they ever show this TV rerun in the UK but I was wondering if the same PT boat they used for the film PT-109 is the same boat they used as PT-73 in the TV show McHail's Navy? ( Yes I know it is anouther none answer but I was just curious. And by the way, I am still a happer camper over the Blind Faith site !!, I am thinking of buying a pony too and maybe I can get lucky !)

Maybe you're right, Ta - I remember 'McHale's Navy' and also remember that Revell in the '60s made 'PT-109' and 'McHale's Navy' model kits - only the box was different....

Ok thanx Martin!
A Das boot question:
In which form was it originally released in Germany? You know this, you get to ask.
As a bonus I ask ( needn´t know this ) which Hollywood star was considered for the leading role originally? ( Probably would not have worked....)

It was a 6 part series and I think was some 8 or so hrs long.
I Dunno the answer to your bonus question. But--I do know it was originally 8 hrs long as my friend Susanne who lives in Konstanz--has the boxed set of tapes.
We only watched one tape that evening as I had to get back to my Gasthaus to sleep because I had an eraly train the next morning to go to see a friend of mine in Switzerland.

Robert redford as a Uboat commander? Ewwwwww Prochnow was ideal for the role. He really looks like a Uboat commander. Just compare his pic with a good one of Paul Brasack and you'd be surprised at how much Prochnow looks like Brasack.

Oh and thank you Kai--heres a new question.
In the movie: "Kelly's Heroes" The scenes in the town that had the three Tigers.
What were the turret numbers of the three Tigers? and what was the turret number of the Tiger that survived?

Sorry Ryan--those aren't the Turret numbers.
The three Tiger turret numbers are: 112, 113 and 115. 115 is the surviving Tiger.
An easier question: Same movie:
Who was the German actor who played the commander of the surviving Tiger crew?
And happily--he is still alive.
Oh and as a bonus that counts towards nothing. VERY briefly in a scene dealing with the three Tigers--there is a Waffen SS soldier who blows a whistle for the tanks to turn off their engines and then he says something in German.
Who was this actor and in what two excellent ww2 TV series was he in?

Was the Tank commander Karl-Otto Alberty?
No idea about the whistle-blower, but, as Erich says, he has to have been something of an optimist to think they would hear him. <grins>

WRONGO!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and here is a tip on where the answer for Kelly's Heores can be found.
In one of the two threads below this one--Otto made a posting in there either the first or second posting--and he posted a link to the IMDB (which I use all the time) and just go to Genre and pick war movies or do a quick search for kelly's heroes and look for the name that goes with the Waffen SS NCO character. Can't lose in going in there to find it.
To find out the answer to my bonus question--nothing will be listed in the IMDB site about the answer to my bonus question--or at least that I haven't checked to see.
Anyway--this same man is and has been a VERY popular character on some soap opera--had changed his name to Eric or Erich Braeden and he had also had a cameo scene or two as an extra passenger on the Titanic in "Titanic."
