Martin, that question was both cruel and fiendish.
Eglin Airfield.

PeterJ gets it !! He's the only person even to get the right Continent.....! He must be an 'After The Battle' reader....
Yes, Eglin it was, with Ozark AFB also used for takeoff and landing sequences. Despite ( quite convincing ) appearances, none of Twelve O'Clock High was shot in England...

Sorry about that Carl. I was actually prompted to look into Martin's question, because Steve mentioned "Sudbury", which is my hometown. We're surrounded by old WWII airfields: Alpheton, Waldingfield and Lavenham to name a few.
My WWII movie knowledge is pathetic, so I'm afraid that I only have another A Bridge Too Far question.
In one scene a trooper nicknamed "Ginger" is killed by a sniper while trying to retrieve a supply cannister (containing maroon berets).
Name the actor and the long running British TV series in which he went on to play one of the main characters for the first 4 of its 20 years to date. Bonus point if you can name the character.
Cheers,
Peter

Hi Peter--no problem.
The answer is:
John Salthouse as Pvt "Ginger" Marsh.

Sorry Peter--I don't know what TV series he was in. Also--sorry about misreading your original post. I'll go check a certain website and see if the answer is there.

Heres all I could find on his TV appearances.
TV series he was in:
Spooks.
Heartbeat.
Tales From The crypt.
Boon.
Coronation Street.
I Didn't know you cared.
The only info in these was that it said he was in 1-2 episodes each in these series. Nothing about a role that he had for 4 years.

You got it KmPok. As I recall he a was a right hard copper. In those days, The Bill was strictly police work only, no sex please we're British. None of the spicey stuff we get today.

I stopped watching it about the time 'Mr Galloway' left. My wife doesn't like me watching 'spicy' stuff
Here's one for the 'more mature' amongst us... or those with no social life
Noel Coward, John Mills, Ricahrd Attenborough, Celia Johnson & Michael Wilding.
The year is 1942. Name the film,

Sorry, Peter ! 'Longest Day' was on TV here last week & that's what made me think of him...
Anyhow, here's an easy one for you ! In 'Theirs Is The Glory', which real-life Officer takes the 'starring role' at Arnhem Bridge in the absence of John Frost....?
