Re: WWII Forums Quiz Part VII
....The last bodies to be burned in these ovens were those of the Nazi war criminals who were condemned to death at the Nuremberg trial, including top Nazi Hermann Göring who committed suicide before he could be executed. According to Robert E. Conot in his book "Justice at Nuremberg," their ashes were scattered in a stream outside the city of Munich, the birthplace of the Nazi movement.

Re: WWII Forums Quiz Part VII
Sounds good to me, or so they say. Weren't they all necked? Hopefully they didn't burn up all that valuable Nazi regalia. Naw, them boys took all that stuff home, or traded it for a beer.

Re: WWII Forums Quiz Part VII
They have the carrier bathed in blue flood lights at Corpus Christi and it looks really cool at night.
Not the reason for the name but I am sure our esteemed and learned and wonderful modulator will guess the answer later or sooner !

Re: WWII Forums Quiz Part VII
She looked like Caspar?
She was reported sunk several times by the Japanese and wasn't camouflaged.

CV-16 was the only carrier not painted in camouflage colors.
Your go, Jeff.
-whatever

EDIT: Actually, I just checked Wiki, and they say that lack of camouflage was ' part' of the reason for the nickname.... so, Jeff's answers are likely correct, too.
I'm gonna have to draw the line at 'Caspar' and the 'blue light' thing, though.... that's a bit of a stretch, and, after all...
... it is MY question!

Re: WWII Forums Quiz Part VII
Staying with post-war trials genre.
Why was Nuremburg chosen over cities like Berlin for the trials?

Re: WWII Forums Quiz Part VII
Because they had the only operating brewery left in Germany???
No, no.....wait! Wiki gives the following reasons: - It was located in the American occupation zone
- The Nuremberg Palace of Justice was spacious and largely undamaged (one of the few that had remained largely intact through extensive Allied bombing of Germany). A large prison was also part of the complex.
- The city had been the location of the Nazi party's Nuremberg rallies, there was symbolic value in making it the place of the Nazi demise.
- As a compromise it was agreed that Berlin would become the permanent seat of the International Military Tribunal and that the first trial (several were planned) would take place in Nuremberg.
Because of the Cold War, there were no subsequent trials. Yeah, I'll go with that....the Palace of Justice one.
hmmmmmm??????

Re: WWII Forums Quiz Part VII
Close enough. My source stated the prison as being the reason. It was only undamaged one large enough to hold the prisoners in one spot.
quiz us, Lou.

This is absolutely wrong. Lexington wore measure 21 solid navy blue camoflauge until mid 1945 when she was repainted into Measure 12 navy blue (or possibly 5-N navy grey) to the hanger bay with haze grey above.
But in addition to Lexington, Cabot (CV 28) and, Langley (CV-27) also never got a mulit-color "dazzle" pattern measure 32, 33 or 34 like many other carriers. Just thought we should be correct on this....
