"Citra", passenger cruise ship, private American hands, "Santa Maria del Mare?", Coast Guard patrol gun boat (?), then refurbished to part of the shadow fleet.

Well, the answer here is the yacht Abril was built in Germany as described in 1931 and impressed into the US Navy in 1941 as the the patrol yacht PY 31 Cythera. Note, this is the second yacht by that name. The first Cytheria (PY 26) was sunk off N. Carolina on 2/5/42 by the U 402. In early 1943 the Cythera was redisignated PYc 31 as a coastal vessel and used in a training status for the remainder of the war.
Post war she was put on the inactive list and sold to Israeli interests where she first served in moving refugees to the not yet formed state of Israel. Later she was commissioned into the new Israeli navy as a gunboat (described above). Post Israeli service she went back into private hands as the yacht Santa Maria del Mare in 1950. Her subsequent fate is unknown.

In USN service she mounted 3 3" guns and carried some depth charges along with several machineguns.

14 September 1941 a Martlet II from FAA Squadron 802 embarked on the HMS Audacity shot down a FW 200 while escorting a convoy. That's the first one I can find.

The first US one(s) are on 9 December by VMF 211 over Wake Island when two F4F-3 piloted by Lt Kliewer and Tech Sgt Hamilton, USMC shoot down two G3M bombers and damage several others.

52 out of 288 American submarines were lost in World War II.
48 went down in combat operations.
How many of those went down due to enemy action ?
