Re: WWII Forums Quiz Part VII
With a total production figure of 771, with none seeing combat service, and many never even being assigned to operational units, what aircraft had the unflattering title of... " the worst American production aircraft of World War II" ?
easy enough ?
Hint ?
trainers, target tugs, and a "rumor" (no proof) that they were actually used for their intended role in the plane starved India/Burma front. Also the craft behind the "first" Marine night fighter squadron.

What well known WWII admiral was the first commander of the submarine base at Pearl Harbor?

Re: WWII Forums Quiz Part VII
The site I looked up says Vibrator however that is more often given to the BT-13 trainer so it may not be what you are looking for. Death trap is what I would call it.

Re: WWII Forums Quiz Part VII
I am not so sure about the Mustang in Viet Nam but the French did use the Corsair. I was thinking of the A-26 Invaider, C-47, and Corsair and perhaps the B-29. I read China used the Tu-2 Version in Viet Nam a few times.
Your turn.

Re: WWII Forums Quiz Part VII
The Mustang was not used in Vietnam by either the US or French. Nor was the B-29, and not even the B-50 (B-29D). There was a company back in the 60's trying to market an upgraded turboprop version of the Mustang as a COIN aircraft but it went nowhere and saw no service in Vietnam.
Other than the A-26, F4U and C-47, the C-59 (constallation), C-45 (Commando), F8F Bearcat (France in Indochina), PO-2, PBM Mariner, TBF in Early warning configuration. The AD-1 was a bit late for WW 2 only having reached flying prototype status. You might throw in the P-80 / F-80 as it was used in all three or its variants the T-33 and F-92. After all, three P-80's did make it to Italy before the war ended.
The F7F is also a possibility. It was almost too late for WW2 and did see service as a nightfighter in Korea. I'd have to check on French use of the nightfighter variant in Indochina.
Well, that's off the cuff.

Re: WWII Forums Quiz Part VII
OK Mr Overachiever ! If you want to ask a question you can. For the B-29 I was thinking of the Russian version that was also built by China but I don't have the name handy. It flew a few missions in Viet Nam.
