Re: WWII Forums Quiz Part VII
That MIGHT be a correct answer - I'm not sure if they had the 'G' on their emblem -
it's not EXACTLY the answer I was looking for.... real close, though.

Re: WWII Forums Quiz Part VII
Bingo....
The Glider Pilot's wings had a 'G' in them:
And, according to the pilots, the 'G' stood for Guts. Did the Glider Infantry have a similar device on their insignia?
Walter Cronkite again: “I’ll tell you straight out: If you’ve got to go into combat, don’t go by glider. Walk, crawl, parachute, swim, float—anything. But don’t go by glider.” Silent Wings: Death From the Sky
and
Just Follow the Rope (an interesting read - 6 pages)
yer go, Jeff
-whatever
-Lou
EDIT: Oh, yeah.... the branch of service is the IX Troop Transport Command, and the specialty is Glider Pilot.

Okay.
Sneaky question but the answer can be found publicly.
Where did Pvt. Ezra Mullins of Alabama serve?
Bonus: Why is he important to me?

Re: WWII Forums Quiz Part VII
Is this a trick question? at the end of the war Ezra Mullins was at Camp Livingston for basic training. After he served in the occupation of Japan.
Bonus: He is your maternal Grandfather

You are correct Mike. You must have found my writeup on him on WW2Talk.com (a little plug for your site, Adam.)
Your thread, Mike.
BTW, He was a great, gentle man and I miss him terribly.

Yes Jeff, I did a simple google search, and it was the first hit. Good write-up BTW.
OK, My turn. Hopefully a bit tougher on all you than my last.
What did the factory workers at Ford's Willow Run bomber plant call this....
Hint: look at the sand
PS. How do I get the pic bigger?

Re: WWII Forums Quiz Part VII
You would need some picture editing software to enlarge the original. Probably make the picture less crisp, though.
To make the picture larger in the post, you will need a photobucket account (or similar site), upload the pic there, then copy and paste the uploaded pic to your post.

As for the pic, shoot, I don't know. It looks sorta like a Portugese Man-o-War.
Tentacles, maybe?

No, It's not an animal in any way. Funny, the first time I saw this I thought it was something pulled out of Jellyfish lake.

Well, it looks like a large electro-magnet picking up iron shavings / filings. As far as a nickname, no idea.

Re: WWII Forums Quiz Part VII
What was the name of the highly trained special forces that were infiltrated by the American OSS (Office of Strategic Services) and the British SOE (Special Operations Executive) into occupied France to organize, train and supply the FFI (Force Française d'Interior, or Maquis) prior to D-Day?
These guys were cool!

Re: WWII Forums Quiz Part VII
Okay, I'm slow in getting a new Q out, thanks to Michelle in reminding me.
It will be an easy one.
What was the first nation to issue its soldiers seperate clothing fight in, as opposed to that issued for parade and walking out?

Re: WWII Forums Quiz Part VII
I don't know if you can put this down to one specific army. For example, I could cite US Army Quartermaster Corps regulations of 1872. These specified a dress, undress, fatigue, and campaign uniform for officers and enlisted.
Some examples of this included:
A dark blue wool overcoat for dress uniforms while the fatigue and field service overcoat was initially buffalo hide and later canvas with a blanket liner when buffalo became too expensive.
A helmet was issued (exact design varied by branch) with the dress uniform while a kepi forage cap was for garrison use and a wide brimmed black hat issued for field use.
Anyway, I think you get the point.

Re: WWII Forums Quiz Part VII
The US Army.
I was using as my source George Forty's US Army Handbook 1939-1945.
Perplex us with a query, Terry.
