Re: WWII Forums Quiz Part VII
Five US Admirals were killed in action on the bridges of their ships. Who were they?
Please do not include flag officers killed in plane crashes, SIWs or physical ailments (heart attacks, etc), only those killed during direct enemy action.

Re: WWII Forums Quiz Part VII
yes WWII only and all were in the Pacific.
The remaing two were killed in a kamikaze attack on a cruiser in 1944 and a submarine attack on a light carrier in 1943.
A well known Navy Cross recipient from Pearl Harbor also died during the submarine attack.

Re: WWII Forums Quiz Part VII
I didn't go that route (probably should have), I looked for the ships.
Who said....during a battle...with pistol drawn and pointed..."Either you are a dead man, or you can earn yourself a medal." ?

Re: WWII Forums Quiz Part VII
The Pearl Harbor Navy Cross recipient that died on the Liscome Bay was Doris "Dorie" Miller.
Hans von Luck?

Re: WWII Forums Quiz Part VII
Ah that's right Dorie did die there, too bad, he deserved to live.
Yep... Col. Hans von Luck, to a Luftwaffe Captain who (initially)(until looking down a gun barrel) refused to use his 88's against tanks.
Your go
