Re: Name this Naval Vessel
Is it a South Dakota class BB? The North Carolinas had two funnels, but both classes were very similar, 35,000 tons displacement and 9 16" guns.

Re: Name this Naval Vessel
USS Alabama, or Massachusetts, BB's 60 & 59 in the same order. South Dakota and Indiana, BB's 57 & 58, were sold for scrap.
Looks more like Alabama to me, since shore property along the "Cape" is pricey (to say the least).

Re: Name this Naval Vessel
It is a beautiful ship, The USS Alabama, BB60, docked as a permanent memorial in Mobile* Bay, Alabama.
Also there is the USS Drum, a Gato-class submarine. It was finally beached a few years ago because the hull was rusting out in the salt water of the bay.
*Mobile is derived from French and is pronounced like this, although we in Alabama put a bit more flavor in the pronuciation than does the woman in the link.

Who ever gave the correct answer goes next M.C117. Once you answer one correctly, given permission by the one who answered the question correctly, or it has been over a week since last post.

It was really just a one-off question, but if y'all want to make a game of it, use this thread:
Name This Naval Vessel 2
You can go with it, Cheef.

Re: Name this Naval Vessel
not too sure...the pictures kinda blurry. Is it a Kongo-class? Or, even better, is it the Kongo?
yea, im not too good with the navy stuff. It could even be the Yamato or Musashi to me. I can't tell the difference in the picture. whoever gets the answer please elaborate so i can see why.

Re: Name this Naval Vessel
Too few funnels for a Kongo, one funnel would be Nagato or Mutsu but my guess, despite the "jap looking" picture quality, and looking at the non jap looking funnel cap would be Dunquerque or Strasbourg (can't see any turrets aft).

Well then I will have to go with Nagato.
