USS Ranger. Had the pic been bigger, everyone could have seen the letters "RNGR" on the aft edge of the flight deck.

A bomber pilot has to be able to recognize these things before bumping into them nose to nose.
Being so close that you can read the "Dog-Tags" and then go through the personnel roster to identify the ship, negates the point.

Keep trying. The sharks mouth on the front is what gives it away. There weren't too many of them painted on subs.

Well, I had the Balao part right........

I never knew so many subs were rebuilt after the war into totally different looking boats. The things ya find when looking for quiz answers.

USS Sealion ii, (SS-315) So name after the first Sealion (SS-195)was damaged by Japanese aircraft damaged her during air raid on the Cavite Navy Yard, Philipines near Manila on Dec. 10, 1941. Ordered scuttled on Dec, 25, 1941. She had just started her overhaul period.

Mikebatzel-You are correct sir! Sister ship to the Yamato and Musashi. Was supposed to third is a line of five Yamato class ships. Sunk by the USS Archerfish (SS-311) on Nov. 29, 1944.
