The 18 story Prudential Building in Warsaw, Poland. As soon as I saw you gave the Eastern Front as a hint I thought Poland.

Yes, the Prudential. The photo was taken during the Warsaw Uprising in late 1944.

Here is a photo of the building before the war:

The building is now known as the Warszawa Hotel.

OK, your turn!

I give up. As soon as I saw the picture this is what went through my mind:

"I know that building, its easy. Thats the....erm...the....dammit where did it go? It was here and now its gone."

In case you haven't guessed it never came back, I cannot remember the darn thing at all!!!

Heh, ok, here's a hint. One of the biggest technological achievements of WWII, one which played a major part in the war, was invented here.

"Grabbed" by the Japanese in WW1. Finally "liberated" in 1945.

The Japanese took it from Germans who built it in 1903.

It's the Germania-Brauerei in Qingdao (or Tsingtao?), China.

It's a monument in Europe, built in 1987.

Edit: Not really a building but... I can find another if you want =)
