Indeed.
One better hope one of these doesn't get through the flak/fighters and get a firing solution/launch against your boat. Designed to carry (4) torpedoes.

Just checking in at the moment, I'll try to post a good one in a few hours.

I really like the way the SkyPirate looks. Kinda like a Skyraider on steeroids.

Default Re: Name that plane

Actually, it was a contender for the same specification along with other entries like the Boeing XF8B-1 among others. The original Navy specification called for an aircraft that could operate as an interceptor, long range escort fighter, fighter-bomber, dive bomber, high altitude horizontal bomber, or torpedo plane. They weren't asking for much there were they?!

The spec called for either 6 x .50 or 6 x 20mm plus a payload of 6,500 lbs of ordinance or two 2,000 lb torpedoes. Is it any wonder the AD-1 ended up a flying dumptruck?

It appears to be a proposed variant of the Canberra bomber. But that's just a guess...

Desperate for a clue here ....
Along the same lines ....
A variation/prototype of the "Comet" ?
I really have never seen the likes, an "odd duck" for sure, no doubt a failure, due to nothing else like it again ?
All questions & no answers

per the Sky pirate, I read it had the (almost)same ><= wingspan of the B-25. Not exactly Carrier (elevator) friendly. From "Jaws"..."We're gonna need a bigger boat!"

Here's a longer answer

The Short SA.4 "Sperrin" (named after the Sperrin Mountains, a range of hills in Northern Ireland) was a British jet bomber design of the early 1950s built by Short Brothers and Harland of Belfast, popularly abbreviated "Shorts". It first flew in 1951. Although it was not put into production because swept-wing designs such as the Vickers Valiant were by then available, the Sperrin prototypes were valuable for research data on large jet aircraft.

I should have recognized this one!

Saab MFI-15 Safari, also known as the Saab MFI-17 Supporter, is a trainer aircraft which is used by several air forces. The Safari is a single engined aircraft, which made its maiden flight in 1969.
