Definetly not Sopwith.

Hint: For the later part of WW2 the company named after the designer was controlled by a WW1 fighter ace.

No and no AFAIK Messerschmitt never built floatplanes and Fokker by WW2 was a Dutch not German company.

It looks very similar to the Japanese Yokoksuka E1Y2. But there are subtle differences.

Hey Jawbone,

The plane is suppose to be german, founded by a german company. We tried japanese and TOS said no. Damn you and your "red herrings" TOS

Also, was it a German Ace?

The designer was forced to relinquish control of his company to an ex ace with VERY close ties to the nazi party and also known for his "size".
Before creating his own company he had worked for Albatross and Hansa-Brandenburg. Now if you can't find him with that info
Finding the actual plane model may be a bit more difficult.

"Mein Gott" TiredOldSoldier...I take it from your liberal use of clues that it's unlikely we're gonna get this one spot on...

All I've got (which is probably wrong anyway) is... The designer is Hugo Junkers whose company was taken over by the Luftwaffe in WW2, Goering being the WW1 Ace and head of the Luftwaffe...

If any of that's correct, then it's still not helping with the I.D.
It's not a J1. or an F13....

Okay...2 stabs in the dark.

1. Albatross W-4.

2. D-V "Goering" Albatross.

Blacksnake,

Goering is right everything else is wrong. AFAIK Junkers was expropriated before the war, and died in 1935, the man we are talking about was expropriated during WW2.

The "mistery plane" is from the company named after the designer so not an Albatross or Hansa-Brandenburg.

It's interesting to see how nazi arrogance, and Goering's greed, lost Germany the services of two hugely talented engineers.

BTW The Albatross D.V was flown by most German WW1 aces, I suspect an Albatross D-V "Goering" is just a particular plane flown by the fat man.

Okay...TiredOldSoldier, thought Goring was the key to this, so when I spotted the connection with Junkers I jumped on it (a bit too hasty).

With fresh eyes (TiredOld"Blacksnake" last night ) Designer is Ernst Heinkel. A lot of similar designs as you've said...There is one I'm having the most trouble locating...So, using the process of elimination I'm going to go for the He 49bw. The 49b converted to a float plane

If that's not close or right I officially concede!

Blacksnake you are nearly there, Ersnt Heinkel is correct but it's not a He 49bw
It's a lot closer to this (Heinkel HD 19) in design though obviously with a different engine

One previous post actually got the model number right but wrong manufacturer.

Seeing as how I'm close I wont "Throw in the towel" just yet.

Is it the Heinkel HD 25. Developed in Germany, but actually built by Aichi in Japan?

The picture came from a book and I was unable to find one on the net, it was actually labeled He 25 but I believe HD 25 is correct.

No...Neither was I ... If it wasn't for your generous clues I would never have pinned it down ... That was harder than "Rocket's" Latvian prototype!

You probably did,

Not much to work with except what looks like a 9 cylinder rotary engine and a VERY distincitve wing, very nice find .

I remomder something that but not where I saw it, I need to lookup some thing before I start the "ranging shots"

No problem mate ... Let me know if you get stuck and I'll be happy to start dangling carrots.

It looks like something out of the "those magnificent men on their flying machines" film and IIRC those planes were pretty accurate reconstructions of exising models.

It does indeed TiredOldSoldier Testing began as early as 1929. This plane was built and successfully flown in 1934.......
