Re: Name that plane
Nope, not a Fw200 or a Douglas DC-3 (But if you want a C-47 with 4 engines why not a DC-4).
First flew in 1943 but was officially presented in 1948, by which time it was obsolescent and was adopted in very limited numbers for both civilian and military use

Re: Name that plane
Since you eliminated the C-54 Skymaster by Douglas, I don't have a clue. Boeing made some cargo units, but they weren't like the photo at all (as I recall), and it seems that the Lockheed versions were all twin verticle stabilizers like the Constellations. The Skymaster was the one I first thought of when I saw the pic.
Apparently not the answer. I dunno.

Re: Name that plane
Not US.
The dates I provided should give you a clue, which country is more likely to stop aircraft developmen in 1943 to resume it some years after the end of the war?

Re: Name that plane
Difficult one.
There were plenty of Austrian Lohner and Italian Macchi copies with that configuration and they all look very similar.

Re: Name that plane
Haha sorry, well it is not Macchi. The aircraft was built for a 1920 Schneider Trophy races but failed to participate since the engine was not ready.

Re: Name that plane
Hello JagdtigerI,
you starting to get confused over your own vivid tricks ? or me?
The winner of the 1920 ST was a Savoia S.12
The winner of the 1921 ST was a Macchi M.7bis
