Re: Name that plane
Hmm...., I had the same thoughts as T.O.S.
could it be a license build Albatros in the Austro-Hungarian airforce, such as the Albatros C.X ?
Regards
Kruska

Nope not an Albatross of any kind. Not German, Austrian, or Hungarian.

Been away for a bit, so thought I'd come back with a vengeance...

Re: Name that plane
At first look I would say Italian or French and somewhere around 1927. It looks civil but there is a suspicious big round (as in roundel) darker area on the lower wing.

Correct decade. Not Italian or French. It was military, but used in a joint role capacity.
As for the 'roundel' ... The photo is un-doctored (by myself) so unsure what it is. The country that used it, displayed a roundel but the country of manufacture did not.

Re: Name that plane
Is it German or possibly British? You can see a soldier standing nearby watching, I am trying to decipher what country it could possibly be.

Re: Name that plane
Not German or British ... The last time I was in control and 'dropped' a clue I shot myself in the foot (so to speak) ... I'm still trying to find something that wont give the game away.
It's obvious from the photo that it was fitted with a piston driven 'pusher' and 'tractor' engine ... It also has three open cockpits, two for gunners and one for the pilot. Can't reveal the country as yet without giving it away. Keep guessing and I'll confirm or deny appropriately.

Re: Name that plane
Okay ... I may be about to shoot myself in the foot again, but I think this one has lasted long enough anyway.
The plane in question was in service for (but not manufactured by) the Bolivian Airforce ...

Re: Name that plane
Seeing that a lot of Bolivia's planes today originate from the U.S. is it American made?

Re: Name that plane
If not French or Italian Dornier also had a liking for the push-pull engine configuration. But can't find anything resembling it.

Well done 343 .... It is the Swiss built Comte AC.3, produced by Flugzeugbau A. Comte in the 1920's as a bomber/transport plane for the Bolivian Airforce.
Didn't know where else to go with the clues on that 'puppy' ... although I knew what it was, I struggled to find any info on it ... Thought you would have got that T/O/S, what with the push/pull engines
If it was up to me 343, you'd get two go's in control for getting that one !!

Re: Name that plane
Hmmm ... Bears a passing resemblance to our Vulcan Bomber that does ... are the 'twin' tail fins for a VTO experimental 'summit or other' ???

Re: Name that plane
Interesting indeed 343 ... first thought the intakes on the wings where for jet engines, because you can't see the 'pusher' engine on the back in your photo ...
Whilst taking a closer look at the Curtiss-Wright XP-55 Ascender I hit on your one ... The Northrop XP-56 Black Bullet. Looks like your image was taken after the second test flight, after the size of the 'dorsal fin' was increased.
