Ok, I asked for a hint....this was a give away...
You are talking about Richtschütze Fritz Christen, who destroyed 6 out of 15 russian T34 in a defensive action. The next day he destroyed 7 more, while his gun was damaged. He himself was schwer verletzt. But his actions deflected and brought to a halt the Russian attack .
I though it was later in september though...

Yeah-it was pretty easy. You got it Stevin-sorry September 27 was the correct date-but i have quoted here that he knocked out 13 T-34s and killed nearly 100 troops-quite an impressive feat for two days work!!!!
Your turn Stevin-lets keep this great thread going i say....

That's true...I forgot the infantry...This RK being won in a defensive battle (in 1941!) it kinda makes me wonder; were most RK awarded for defensive or offensive battles??? Maybe food for thought for another thread...
Allrighty....
Jost Metzler and the crew of U69 ventured into African waters in search of prey. What international incident did they create by sinking which ship???

Urrgh! A naval Question. I think I know this one. Cannot remember the ship but the incident was they were towing two liferafts filled with survivors. They tended to the wounded and sent a message to the Allies informing them of what they were doing. The Allies did strafe them but I forgot the reason why. I will get more definitive information. The German Naval Command was not too happy on the Kapitan's actions.

Was it the American Merchant ship Robin Moor? This was the first American ship to be sunk by the U-boats.

Ok here it goes: The submarine did not display it's flag or announce its intentions. It fired on the unarmed vessel sinking it. They took on the survivors, gave them rations but against international law, put them back into the sea instead of taking them on board and placing them at a place of safety. The US declared that it would fire upon any submarine found operating in US waters.

Close enough....the 'incident' I was referring to was that the U69 sunk an US vessel and the US was still neutral at the time. So that kicked up quite a stink.
PzJgr, the floor is all yours....

Whew! Lucky I knew a naval question. Thanks to History Channel that is. Back to land.
Question: Can you name the American Infantry division that used the swastika as their unit patch? This was changed later on for obvious reasons. good luck

Alright, I have an intensive class all weekend so I haven't had time for a real doozey, but at least this easy one will give someone else a chance to play. What is the popular name of the last bridge over the Rhine, and what is the real name? For bonus, what was the 1st Amd. and 1st. Inf. division (US) to cross it?

Well, both names are right, 9th Armored was the first Division over period, and the 99th Infantry division was the first whole inf. div. to go over. Although I think that the 47th Rgt. of the 9th Div. may have gone over, just as a Regt., before the 99th Div. Now, who's up to bat.....
