Hopefully this one will keep you guessing for a little while.
Name the Dutch Volunteer Unit that became trapped at Narva, but managed to fight off the Russians, and even launch their own counterattack-then name their Commander including rank.....

The SS-Freiwilligen-Legion 'Nederland' expanded in the summer of 1943 into four SS-Freiw.Pz.Gren.Btn. 5500 Dutch volunteers were at that time in the units. In autumn 1943 the SS- 'Nederland' was together with SS- 'Nordland' in Croatia where they were involved in Anti-Partisan war. In November these battalions got regimental names, and were moved up to the Leningrad front. In the summer of 1944 the SS- 'Nederland' was engaged in heavy fighting in and around Narwa. The 'Dutch' SS-Brigade soon suffered from supply shortages since the main supplyroads such as the bridge across the Narva were blocked or closed. The number of Red Army attacks on the Dutch lines raised in the same time. On march the 8th, two Red Army armoured Regiments stormed the Dutch lines. This time the SS-men repelled the attack but suffered high losses. This situation continued until april 1944. The regiment SS- 'De Ruyter' was almost destroyed. Between january the 1st 1944 and april the 13th 1944 the Brigade lost (killed in action, missed in action or wounded): 87 officers, 502 nco's, and 3139 soldiers. SS-Freiwilligen-Panzer-Grenadier-Brigade 'Nederland' now counted 6.305 (originally 9.342) combat ready men.

Commander was SS-Brigadeführer Joachim Ziegler.
(Hanau, 18.10.1904 - Berlin, 02.05.45/SS-Nr.: 491 403). After the Narwa battle, on 20.04.1944, he was succeeded by SS-Brigadeführer Jürgen Wagner.

You asked for a Dutch volunteer unit that became trapped at Narva, but managed to fight off the Russians, and even launch their own counterattack-then name their Commander including rank.

I give you a Dutch volunteer unit that became trapped at Narva, but managed to fight off the Russians, and even launch their own counterattack and I name their Commander including rank.

Now you're telling me that I mentioned the wrong Dutch volunteer unit that became trapped at Narva, but managed to fight off the Russians, and even launch their own counterattack, or that I name the wrong Commander or rank.

Too bad I said this forum goodbye. Id love to see what answer you come up with and if the info you have is correct.

Timo-this is not the unit i am referring to, now this is the question and the answer you gave me is wrong. I wasn't speific, but obviously your aggression from Friedrich is carrying over to me, please, your answer was good and every facet was correct, but it is not the unit i speak of.
A clue is that the commander was decorated with the RK for his command on 21 April 1944.

G'day Panzerknacker

It would be a shame to end this thread. Maybe you could give it a new start, maybe a new question, or maybe anybody else???

Ok, let me try and burn my fingers here. I'll stick to the Dutch; SS PZ-Gren. Reg. 48 'General Seyffardt' under SS-Obersturmbannfuhrer Wolfgang Joerchel.

Thats a lame one,

48.SS-Freiwilligen-Panzergrenadier-Regiment "General Seyffard" was part of 23.SS-Panzergrenadier-Division "Niederlande". You never asked for a regiment, just a "Dutch volunteer unit".

When you'de asked "which unit was stopped at Stoumont in December 1944", and I answer "LSSAH", would you also say "wrong" because it was SS-Panzer-Regiment 1"?

Aha, why didn't you say you don't know enough about this subject to know whats a right and whats a wrong answer. In that case I would not have bothered to answer your question.

Fine with me, but I hope this time we'll get a question that has just one answer and that the one who asks the question knows the answer himself.
