G'day Martin
Was it 2nd lieutenant Owen Roane who coming back from North Afrika brought a living donkey named Mo in the plane with him. Coming back to England they fired red flares indicating need for medical assistence. The tower asked what was wrong and Owen said "I'mcoming in with a frozen ass" where upon a docter was send to the plane to check. He then found the "Jackass".

Very well done, Popski - right in all respects.
I also thought that this would be a nice way to remember 'Cowboy' who passed away on February 1st this year.
Over to you......

Thank's Martin
My question is
What was the name of the German bouncing bomb and what was the big difference (besides not working) with the British bouncing bomb?

G'day
I think it's time for some tips. The British bouncing bomb used at the Ruhrdams had little brothers, twins called Highball. Two bouncing balls dropped at the same time. Name the German BB and the great difference with the British bouncing boobies?

Aaaaah! I'm drowning in the Ruhr causeway because of those bouncing bombs but can't find the German version. I say they failed because it was a barrel shaped bomb that literaly bounced all over thus not very accurate.

G'day
The German bouncing bomb was called "Kurt" and the big difference with the British Highball was that it had no backspin. The charge was 850-lb of HE. The bomb's were released initially by a Me 410 and later a FW 190 was used. The bomb's were released and gained speed with rocketpower, the rocket breaking off on impackt with the water and the BB skidded over the water upon reaching its objective and then sinking and detonated by hydrostatic fuse.
The BB were dropped in two's, but were never used in action. [B. Johnson, The secret war, p. 302-303, BBC Series]

I think Panzerknacker's thinking of Johannes Steinhoff - but I'm guessing the answer is Werner Molders ?

G'day
Joe's bridge is in Belgium at the border of Holland. It was the bridge that formed the startingpoint of the Garden part of Operation Market Garden. It is named after the commander of the Irish Guards who captured the bridge, Joe Vandeleur.

Typed in a hurry as I'm just going to a dinner party...
It was called 'Cuckoo' and captured & used by 4th Bn 6th Coldstream Guards. All staff tanks were named after birds - assume this got the name as it was being used against its former owners like a cuckoo in the nest -- wife dragging me away from computer..arggggghhhhhhh

What, in Bomber Command, was the codeword for a 'maximum effort' raid , often sent out to bomber stations before the actual target was known ?
( The Peenemunde Raid of August 1943 was such an operation )
