Good ideas, Panzerknacker, but not quite. The other one he truly missed was given by Fuhrer for the Panzerfaust operation, the other by Mussolini for his freeing in 1943. Thatīs tips for you...

Ok, Carl, we believe you! But make sure it wasnīt the Beach boys that landed on Omaha first...

Indeed, Carl!

Just to think they had "Do you think Iīm sexy?" and sent it nonstop to Europe with high power radio stations and antennas Iīm convinced-Hitler would have surrendered in a week...

Oh, but back to the question:
Otto Skorzeny lost two important things after he surrendered. Naturally they ended up as souvenirs for some US soldiers...What are they?

The thing from Mussolini was golden and a letter "M" made of rubies, and bore the date 12.9.1943.

What Hitler gave was something made of paperish stuff and Skorzeny actually used it only once-to get some sausages to eat! Thatīs what he himself recalls. And itīs not money...

PS. Read as well a little time ago that Hitlerīs uniform of 20th July is somewhere safe. Unfortunately did not find the story again...Anyone heard of its wherabouts? This is just an extra question but if no one knows the first Skorzeny question but instead knows this, heīll get to ask. Otherwise the Skorzeny question is the winner here...

Ok, if you donīt have the book it might be too hard a question, admitted.

Anyway, the first one was a watch, and the second was a commanding order by Fuhrer that everyone should do whatever they can to help Mr Skorzeny in his efforts during the operation Panzerschreck. Iīll be into details later on.

A new question, yes.

What were the Russian behind-the-line saboteurs called, they were dropped in groups for missions, and afterwards returned to their own lines. They are not partisans, who were mainly people from local villages.
Especially active, I think, in the Finnish front.

What are they called? Easy one?

I know what you talking about I just cant remember what they were called--dag nab it there was a movie made about them in the 1940s- with I think Gregory Peck as one of them. For the life os me--I cant think of what they are called.

If im not mistaken--they like you mentioned were from local villages and I think were under the command of a "village" leader of some sort.

I know im wrong on the name but--they were something like Chetniks--but not Chetniks--if you know what I mean?

Ok, it was a desant...

New question:

Lang helped smuggle his copies of the Norden bombsight blueprints aboard German cruise ships and traveled to the fatherland to assist in the assembly of a copy. There he was toasted by Luftwaffe chief Hermann Goering and received a payment of $3,000 from the Third Reich. Eventually betrayed by a double agent, Lang was arrested by the FBI and tried in the grandest espionage case in U.S. history as one of the "Nazi Nineteen." He was convicted in federal court and sentenced to 18 years in prison.

Question: Why didnīt the nazis have much use for the bombsight in the end ( as far as I know) ??

This is more of a question for Erich but--heres my lame try

They possibly ddint need the plans for the Norden bombsight as they were possibly having one of their own in development--or they actually captured one from a downed aircraft?

I'll give it my best shot but it might not be what you are looking for. My understanding is that the Norden could not and would not fit into the tight spaces of the twin engine medium bombers of the Luftwaffe. They were in no need of high altitude precision bombing or so they thought. If anything was done with the norden it was taken apart piece by piece then re-assembled and taken to the radar techs so they could develop counter measures to it. As the Würzburg and other vertical standing sets were supposed to actaully home in on the emmisions of the bomb sight and supposedly confuse it, which never happened.

Thanx for trying, Carl! Good guess, but like you would say, no cigar, sorry!

Yes, Erich, the answer is there. The Germans were heavily involved in dive bombing so something like Norden for bombing from high altitude was not very necessary for them.

Quite interesting, as it is often mentioned as one of the bigger secrets taken to Germany, and they would not need it...Itīs a weird world!

This was the answer. At least thatīs what I was looking for and thatīs why Norden was almost useless to Germans...Actually, Erich, did they use it for any bombers, any idea?

PS By the way I sent you Erich a PM on those einsatzkommando Helsinki Me 109`s and what I recently found out about them.
