Oh-oh...Carl! I guess you´re the first one who punished himself for the wrong answer...
All right , anyway, here´s the right answer:
Etmal :The distance the U-boat travelled in 24 hours (from high noon to high noon).
All right, but I´ll continue with weird U-boat stuff:
What was the main U-boat base ( German ) in the Far east? It received its first U-boat in July 1943.

Singapore. U 181 was based in Panang. That happened sometime after Kapitan zur See Kurt Freiwald took over command of U 181 from Kapitanleutnant Wolfgang Luth.
Anyway--if some of my detail in this answer is wrong--I got the correct country.

Oh and Kapitan zur See Wilhelm Dommes was in command--or in the later stages of the war. I have a few nice pics of him decorating my friend--Karl Kaiser with the German Cross in Gold. In this particular picture--Kapitan Freiwald is in the background.

Thank you my friend. Let us see...............
Who was the only Waffen SS officer of the rank of General that transferred back to the Army as a Generalleutnant? And why?
The why answer can be vague as I dont know the specifics on it--but I need this mans name and his FULL Waffen SS rank at the time of his transfer.
PS--I gave a hint above as to his rank at the time of transferr.

At least I got the name and rank:
http://www.geocities.com/~orion47/SS...-Gruf_O-Z.html
SS-Gruppenführer und Generalleutnant der Waffen-SS
SAUBERZWEIG, Karl Gustav
Heer Promotions:
Gen.Lt.: Jan. 1945, Returned to Heer
General z.b.V. Heeresgruppe H: Mar. 1945 - May 1945
On reasons why he returned to Heer I really don´t know for sure but as far as I could follow him, he was with IX SS Mountain Corps since autumn 1944 and this corps ended in the Budapest trap (?). Maybe they wanted him for other assignments as the foreign corps were finished...??

Great guess Kai--good enough and the football is now yours.
As for reasons why he transferred back to the Heer all I have is that he "had a few differances" with Himmler. They rarely agreed on anything--during Karls brief career in Der Waffen SS.

The emblem of U-124, the Edelweiss, was inspired by the loss of U-64 in April, 1940.
The crew of the U-64 were saved from the Norwegian waters by German mountain troops using that emblem.
In honour of this act, the ex-crew of the U-64 who made up the majority of the U-124 adopted the emblem of their rescuers.
The U-124 sank a total of 48 allied ships, before being sunk with the loss with all hands, in April 1943 by the RN escorts HMS Stonecrop and the sloop HMS Black Swan

Might I add that I learnt that from Clay Blair's great book, 'Hitler's U-Boat War-Part 1"
