Name the leader of the Phillipino Rebels that met with admiral dewey in 1898 in manila bay, then attacking the Americans in Manila one year later. He made teh mistake of fighting the americans in a conventional war and by the time we switched ot geurilla war it was too late.

What is the date in 1944 that the Philippine civilian government was formally reinstated, where it took place and who was named president?

Wrong, wrong and wrong. A hint: Manuel Quezon is already dead, but it is before Nov.

For me, not so much the pacific, but focusing on the fall of the phillipines and the battle for the solomon islands.

Gotta count me out on the Pacific War--its been about 20 or so years since I really did any reading about it except for a few exceptions--like articles in older issues of Military history and WW2 magazines.
If you want me to try to attempt any answers--it HAS to be something in the E.T.O. and North Afrika or something related to that side of the world--unless one wants to get into the Napoleanic Wars--or other Wars....

OK this one was tough. On October 23rd 1944, the civilian government of the Philippines was formally reinstated at Tacloban, the island capitol, under President Sergio Osmena, who had replaced Manuel Quezon after his death. New question: What was the name of the Soviet Stalingrad Offensive?

Took some digging, but was it codenamed "Uranus" ?
Led by Marshall Zhukov, and launched in 2 phases. The first beginning on November 19, and the 2nd phase beginning on November 20.
Am I close?

Thanks Steve, I knew all this reading books about WW2 would come in handy. Love these quizzes, they make you go back and read all the stuff again.
Okay, here's a quickie for you guys.
Name that famous german who arrived to help the Italians in North Africa.
I want his rank, at the time, his full name (including all his christian names), the date he arrived, and the the airfield he arrived at.
Should be easy.

Spot on dasreich, thought you might have got that one. Probably too easy but then I was just re-reading about North Africa, so it just seemed appropriate.
To be precise, Rommel actually arrived at Castel Benito airfield in Tripoli, on the 12 Feb '41 accompanied only by 2 staff officers. The 5th Light Division arriving a couple of weeks later.
OK, your go.
thanks
