DOH!!! and WOW!!!--It has to be Joachim Muncheberg as Marseille had all the Rk and higher decorations before his death.

Darn--I feel a bit on the stupid side on this one.

BTW-- Der Stern von Afrika never kept a low profile and was much more well known than Muncheberg.

Heinz Kroseberg Hauptmann 19.6.1942

Is the right answer. Unfortunately I know not much on him, except for the info I gave earlier here.If anybody has extras, that would be great. As I read this story on him, I felt some kinda "different" about this man. He was giving all his efforts to the rescue operations. I just hope the story don´t change later on!

I knew the answer would be hard to find, but I was hoping someone would have deeper knowledge, somehow. I did not find him in the net ( except for name but otherwise..nada ) and only this short story in the book. How cruel, even though he must have been a true hero in the DAK forces among the men, I think.

------

Another question then.

Who did Rommel call "preatorian guards" and they should be incorporated into the army. This includes two troops so it is not as easy as one would think immediately, I guess. Or maybe it is easy...

Kai--Rats to the first question and to the second, I think Rommel was talking about both the Fallschirmjager and the Waffen SS.

Waffen-SS is correct. The other one I cannot accept in that form, but I want to know whose troops exactly. And that´s a clue. Who was the nazi boss that Rommel hurt with this comment and who never forgave Rommel...Who gets this right gets to ask. The Waffen-SS part was the easy part.

Possibly the Herman Goring Panzer Korps--or depending on what date--the Herman Goring Panzer Division. He hurt Herman Gorings ego a bit.

If not these guys--ive no clue---yet.

Indeed, Carl!

Goering was somewhat p***** with Rommel for his thoughts on his troops, maybe not so much on the Waffen-SS.

So over to you, Carl!

This is an EASY one and multi-part. Not to worry--it all rolls into one huge answer.

Name the Armored Division that opened the way and was the first to reach Bastogne? What is the units nickname? Name and rank of the man who led the first unit into Bastogne and what was named after this man in his honor?

PS--if you get all of these--I do not need what Regiment he was in.

Ok heres the answersd.

4th Armored Division with an Armored Reginemt being commanded by Col Creighten Abrams. The Divisional nickname is: "Deeds Alone" (which BTW--is not on the bottom of their Divisional Patch unlike: Hell on Wheels and Spearhead etc--BECAUSE they are to be remembered for their "Deeds Alone)" The Abrams Tank was named after Creighton Abrams.

Anyone for guessing the name of the lead tanks driver? If you can get that--Ill give a nice piece of my militaria to you. Ill leave that for a few more days.

You sure are trying, Panzerknacker...and getting closer...

This is what I found:

"But five tanks and one infantry half-track stuck to the letter of their assignment and kept moving toward Bastogne. Three of the tanks had forged several hundred yards to the fore and the enemy strewed Teller mines between them and the rest of the tank force as they were pulling out of Assenois. The half-track hit a mine and was destroyed. Captain Dwight jumped down from his tank to clear the other mines away, so that he could get forward with his two tanks. Meanwhile, the three lead tanks kept going and at 1650 First Lieutenant Charles P. Boggess, commanding officer of Company C, 37th Tank Battalion, drove the first vehicle from the 4th Armored Division to within the lines of the 326th Airborne Engineer Battalion, 101st Division, of the Bastogne forces. "

Answer to the second question:

GenLt Alexander Reinhard Maximilian Ludwig Moritz Edler von Daniels (Div Commander)
376th Infanterie Division
Knights Cross on 18 December 1942.

Wow! I almost got short of breath as I said that...
