How about....
either Flight Officer Constance Babington-Smith or Wing Commander Douglas Kendall working at the Central Interpretation Unit at Medmenham. Although I think Constance found it first and Kendall confirmed it.
The photos they were looking at were taken by Squadron Leader John Merifield flying a Mosquito PR IX of No. 540 Squadron, and were taken over Peenemunde on Nov 28, 1943, after an abortive photo-recce flight over Berlin.
Close???

Direct hit, Sniper !
History usually gives the honour to Ms Babington-Smith, and I didn't think anyone'd get the 'Medmenham' bit.
Oh, er...thanks for mentioning the Mosquito !

Thanks Martin.
I was looking through my Allied Photo Reconnaissance of WW2 book the other day and saw a picture of Constance Babington-Smith checking some photos. So it all fell into place. She might have been a bit of a cutee back in her younger days.
Okay guys here's one to ponder on.
Smallest tracked vehicle used by the Germans? (that's the easy part) Manufacturer? Operated by what specialist unit?

The first thing that comes to my mind is the "Goliath".
"...1940 a small demolition carrier, which was developed by the French manufacturer Kegresse ( the beginning )From April 1942 to January 1944 the manufacturers Borward and Zündapp ... "
The first "Goliath" E-Motor vehicles were given to Panzerpionierkompanien (Goliath) 811-815, which belong to Heerespionierbataillon(mot) zbV600 (Taifun). Also the Pioniersturmbrigade 627 got some of the first "Goliath".

Spot on Kai. Goliath it was.
At wars end 7,500 Goliath had been built. Some petrol powered and some just by batteries.
Most successfully used in the Warsaw uprising.
Over to you.

Thanx sniper!
So, my question is on Adolf Galland and it is a trick question. So if you know you know etc!
How many times did he receive Brilliants to his Knight´s Cross with Oak Leaves with Swords?? And let´s say this is during the WW2.
This is a great story, by the way!

Panzerknacker,
I do have a feeling you know this, but can you be a bit more precise as I don´t get the number 4 within ww2? Like from who, don´t need the date though..I might remember wrong myself now as I don´t have the book with me but as I recall the number of times he got the brilliants during ww2 was not 4.

In ww2, I think he recieved them twice--ones unofficially as I believe they were a borrowed set from another winner, and then officially when he recieved them from Hitler.
Or am I way off base?

Oh-yes-sorry
He received the Diamonds once from another flyer who made a mock award of them to Galland at his airfield after receiving notification by telegram.ONCE
Received the Diamonds from Hitler at his actual ceremony. TWICE
Misplaced his set of Diamonds at an airfield in Germany and was presented with a mock set for the time being. THREE
For instituting the Me262 into frontline combat service, and gaining several kills in the jet against Allied 'heavies' it was decided that had Galland not already officially received the Diamonds-he should receive them now. FOUR
Take a breath no....and hope that I am right of course....

Nope..I am sorry to be cruel but it is not the way Galland himself counted the times. I can tell that one of the times is when he received the certificate back for the brilliants after the war, the brilliants were taken from Goering´s vault, where he had given a safe for Galland to keep his valuables. The "robbers" were not interested in such papers...
But anyway, the main idea is the quality of the brilliants here, and maybe you guys now remember how he got more brilliants than anybody else...

What enemy "object" did the RN submarine HMS Safari torpedo on the 17 November 1942, and why was it so unusual an event

Ok, here´s the story:
From Galland´s " Die ersten und die letzten"
" On 28 January 1942 I was awarded as the second soldier in Wehrmacht the Brilliants to my Knight´s cross. I was happily surprised. Mölders had his after his 100th air victory, and I was still missing six. Hitler thought that my new position should not give me the expression that it had stopped me from getting the highest possible honour in the German army. Besides my 94 victories were all from the Western front so they were thought as more valuable.
My first brilliants I received in the usual ceremony by Hitler. A bit later I was travelling with Goering in his special train as he wanted to see my brilliants. " Are those the brilliants that Fuhrer gave you? Let me see!"
"No" he said. "These are not brilliants! These are pieces of glassa! Totally useless! The Fuhrer has been fooled by these. He knows on tanks and planes but nothing on brilliants. I have a little stock myself, you´ll be surprised, Galland! "
Later on I was asked to Karinhall, where Goering was happy like a child. Goering took the Fuhrer´s brilliants to his other, then his brilliants to his other hand and asked me to comapre: "Look-notice the difference? Who is the one who understands on brilliants?" I must say the Goering´s brilliants were absolutely fabulous. They were big and shone beautifully. Compared to these the Fuhrer´s brilliants were nothing. So now I had two sets of brilliants.
Goering also mentione dthat he´s going to talk with Fuhrer about this matter.
I guess he did because soon I was asked to Wolfsschanze. In the presence of Milch, Keitel and Jeschonnek Fuhrer told me " Galland, you are about to receive the highest honours in the German military, but so far you only had the temporary brilliants with you..."
I was truly schocked and frightened, because I had taken Goering´s brilliants to this occasion. Goering had not told Hitler about this. The situation became even worse as Hitler wanted to have the brilliants I had on.he must have noticed they were not the brilliants he had given, but he kept it in his hand and said:" Well, see the difference! These are pure glass while these are true brilliants!" Anyhow the Goering´s brilliants were much bigger and looked better-Fuhrer had no idea of what brilliants looked like?? But now I had the brilliants in three sets.
As the war was coming towards its end, my office in Berlin was bombed and I lost my brilliants. As Hitler heard of this, he gave me a new set of brilliants-the fourth ones."
Actually I was originally asking the number of the times he got the brilliants not else so I must admit that you got it right Panzerknacker. I thought it was three but now that I have the book it says it was actually four.Over to you!
PS. Did you know what circus Rosarius was? It was a group of allied planes caught by Germans that went from one place to other and the German pilots were allowed to experience the different types of enemy planes and see the weak and strong points.

What did Hitler say about "decadent" art???
Hint: It concerns those who actually painted such things...

Finland itself was in Jepardy, so the finns asked to be transfered home to fight for their homeland.
