According to Toliver & Constable, Lent ( who was indeed the other 'Diamonds' ace ) scored 110 victories, of which 102 were at night.

( I am now commencing a 'corkscrew' to avoid Erich's Schrage Musik .... )

I got the answer from Mick Spicks Luftwaffe Fighter Aces, and that agrees. Lents 8 day kill were 1, Poland, 2, German Bight and 5, Norway.

I'll have a new question soon.

Thats up my alley.

Also, I have a mint unissued set of Propaganda Kompanie Leutnants shoulderboards with the "X" Cypher on them designating that he was stationed in Wehrkries 10.

Threr were two versions they wore--one just had an underlay of light grey no Waffenfarbe color, and the other (the ones I have) had an underlay of light grey with yellow as the Waffenfarbe color.

Thank you my firend--also and hope the package arrives to your place soon--needs a good place to be placed at.

OK, an easy one for the remainder of the year.....

Why was Kaiser Friedrich Wilhelm von Pruessen known as: "The 99 Day Kaiser?"

1888

June 15th Kaiser Friedrich III dies after 99 day reign; his eldest son becomes Kaiser Wilhelm II

Is it this, perhaps?

Yeah, I do...

I mean, Popski, don´t shoot the messenger... Carl asked about Kaisers, and Kaisers were not very common in WW2, I think. And this is actually what I found in the net. Whether it is the correct answer we are to find out...

Very Happy New Year all! ( I almost wrote very Nappy New Year....not a baad idea though )

Indeed Kai

We buried the last Kaiser in 1941.
Have a look at
http://www.hetnet.nl/~supersmit/ww1/wilhelm.html
He passed his day's chopping wood, a big forrest was reduced to single trees by him.

Sorry Kai

These dutch providers don't help much. With Google search you could look up '" Wilhelm II in Doorn" and you'll see the site I mean.

Hmmm...I remeber now. Just loved that moustache..

Kaiser Wilhelm II was forced to abdicate on the 9th of November, 1918, just before the end of the First World War. He fled with the rest of his family to The Netherlands, where he lived for the rest of his life.

In 1919 he bought a small castle in Doorn, called "Huis Doorn".

To stay in physical shape the Kaiser daily saw down trees. When he died in 1941, he saw down more than 40.000 trees. Giving the country-seat around the castle a look almost as barren as a World War 1 battlefield...

During his exile in Doorn he wrote two volumes of autobiography:
- Memoirs 1878-1918 (1922)
- My Early Life (1926)

Kaiser Wilhelm II died on June 4, 1941. He was buried in a small mausoleum on the lawn of Huis Doorn. In his will he ordered that his body must stay there until in Germany the monarchy is restored.

In 1945 the Dutch government seized the castle and the household effects as being hostile German property. After being renovated the castle is turned into a museum, which can be visited daily.

Just an addition to a "great" question...

On the same day as Hitler said no more Field marshals in this war three more were promoted...

Ernst von Busch
Ewald von Kleist
Maximilian Freiherr von Weichs

Just a piece of information I found after the question asked...
So four more to go..

I can think of one off the top of my head--he was LW General Ritter von Griem--and was promoted by Hitler after flying into Berlin during the final days. His polit was Hanna Reich--and the General had been wounded in his foot and was wondering why he had to report to Hitler instead of doing this by radio communication.

Im not sure who the other three were and are too lazy to look.

Yes, that´s right, you got one, Carl!

Three more to go...

Some hints...

1.One of the most brilliant tactical air commanders of the war, was a daring, "lead from the front" officer along the lines of Rommel. On the downside, he had a harsh temper and was a hardcore National Socialist who pandered to Hitler to advance his own star.

2. The son of a police official, was born in Munich, Germany, on 12th June, 1892. He joined the German Army during the First World War and was awarded the Por le Mérite .He was promoted rapidly after the outbreak of the Second World War reaching the rank of Major General in 1941. The following year he commanded a Panzer Army Corps. . His strong faith in fascism impressed Adolf Hitler and in 1945 was promoted to the rank of General Field Marshal.

3.On 14th January 1942, He was transferred to the 9th Army. Under attack from Russian partisans, He asked Hitler for a panzer corps to help protect his troops. Hitler refusal led to a heated argument and He told him that a commander at the front was in a better position to develop strategy than people in the rear studying maps. Hitler, who respected Him as a soldier eventually gave in and gave him the troops he demanded.
In August 1944 he was transferred to the Western Front where he succeeded Gunther von Kluge. However, after 18 days Hitler had second thoughts about Him and he lost his command to Gerd von Rundstedt.
