WWII Forums Quiz Part III
Continued from here:
WWII Forums Quiz Part II
That last thread was getting a little long in the tooth.
A little math for those keeping count:
Quiz I thread = 218 posts
Quiz II thread = 320 posts
---------------------------
= 538 posts, and counting...
This is the continuation of the quiz thread. The rules are as before: To earn the right to pose a question, you must be the first to answer the current question correctly. You must however wait for confirmation that you are correct before you can ask your question.
I'm not sure who is up next...

Were there any British troops in Poland? If so, then that would be a likely place.

Ok.
So apart from Sniper (Konigsberg and Skua I think...)here is the answer. The first engagement between British Regular troops (not Territorials) took place on 25th September 1940 at Kvam.
Ok which British port claimed that it got it's Town planning "Courtesy of the Luftwaffe" ?

Hmmm, Well done Jumbo.
The first British aircraft to shoot down a German aircraft was indeed a Blackburn Skua, its victim a Do 18
The Blackburn Skua was also the dive-bomber which sank the first warship by dive-bomber attack ,the German light cruiser, Konigsberg. On the 10 April 1940 during the invasion of Norway
Another aircraft one to keep you all busy
can you name the Allied bomber which holds the record for the greatest number of missions for a single aircraft in the European theater of operations
if you can name me the one in second place as well, you get the award for being a clever-clogs

There is a Port in the UK whose Town Council and Residents proudly boast they got their Town planning courtesy of the Luftwaffe. It had little defence and got plastered. The frontage of the Co-op forms part of a memorial park held up by shoring opposite the City's Theatre.
The raids cleared many slum areas the town was able to rebuild, but you can still find bomb-damaged houses in the old town.

Thanks Jumbo.
Okay, here goes:- three part question for this one:
1) What was the name of the most senior British (that includes British & Commonwealth) Officer to be taken prisoner in WW2 and ESCAPE?
2) What was the name of the book he wrote?
3) What happened to him after his escape?
Enjoy!

Martin " Anyway, a stab at your one - Mosquito B Mk IV LR503 ?"
I should have known better than to post a question which involved a Mosquito
Yes Martin, you are correct it was Mosquito GB-H ( LR503 )
This Mosquito flew 213 missions in the ETO, the greatest number by any Allied bomber in WW2
