I bow to your superior reading, Martin. Overkill on the thrust for a 9,000lb payload tho'.

But hey, I never had to sit on top of one of those bombs. I'd want to get it where it was going quickly too.

G'day

The design of the MP-38/40/41 is often credited to Schmeisser but the design is probably made at the ERMA plant.

Lightbulb

Martin, could you stop messing follish Friedrich up?! The 'Johnny' Johnson I know is John Edgar Johnson, wing commander, 38 victories, still alive. Right?

And the answer would be:

Hugo Schmeißer, popular hand-guns designer didn't participate in the Maschinepistol 1938's designs. He was only the director of the factory Haenel von Schul, where the weapon was produced during the war.
The real father of the 'Schmeißer' was Berthold Geiper, director of Erfurter Maschinenfabrik Werke, who since the early 1930s experimented and tested many sub-machine-guns that would lead to the creation of the incredible MP-38 and its later versions.

HeHeHeeeee....

Friedrich, I'm sorry but 'your' 'Johnnie' Johnson was indeed James Edgar J who very sadly passed away on January 30th 2001.

( BTW Welcome back, Popski ! You've been a bit quiet lately... )

Question

Hehe..this is the sort of thing that can lead to tears, verbal abuse, fistfights, and culminate in a major international incident....

Basically, if it's your question, KmPok, you call the shots. Both answers are right, and indeed Friedrich gave far more detail, but usually it's who gets in first.

Anyway, Friedrich ( ) is a forgiving chap, he'll understand !

Thnx Martin.

I know, let's have two questions. One from Popski and one from Frieddie.

That's fair, isn't it?

Alright. Popski already asked the question and it was indeed his turn. I hadn't seen his post. Otherwise, I wouldn't have bothered in answering the question...

Your turn Martin

I had as an answer

MP3008
Also as an answer I had Gerat Potsdam, which is different from your Gerat Neumunster. My source is "Small arm of the World" Where did you get the name?

Thanks, Popski - yes, I've seen the 'Potsdam' name used as well. My source was John Walters' book 'Guns Of The Reich ' ( A& AP ).

A nice easy one.

In March 1943 'Johnnie' ( that's James Edgar to you, Friedrich ! ) Johnson took over the Kenley (Canadian) Spitfire Wing as Wing Commander Flying.

What radio callsign and aircraft identification letters did he choose for himself ?

Interesting selection of obituaries - they tell you everything except the answer to the question !

( I thought this one would fall at the first fence but it's cantering along quite nicely )
