Wilford Lee 'Bill' Hornung
(1919 - 2007)

WEST UNITY,OHIO - Wilford Lee "Bill" Hornung, 88, of West Unity, died Saturday, Dec. 8, 2007, at his home.
Born Sept. 19, 1919, in Pleasant Township, Henry County, to Blanch (Kellermyer) and Arthur C. Hornung, he married Mary Margaret Neuhauser on June 18, 1944 and she survives in West Unity. A 1939 graduate of Macomber High School in Toledo, he became employed at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton in 1940 during World War II.
From 1946, he was a self-employed mechanic and owner/operator of Hornung's Garage in West Unity as tractor repairman.
He was the oldest merchant in West Unity, retiring in 2004 at the age of 85.
An active member of the West Unity United Methodist Church, he was a member of the United Methodist Men, a Sunday school teacher and also ushered for 70 years. He was also a past "Citizen of the Year" of West Unity.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are a son, Ronald J. (and wife, Theda) Hornung of Mansfield, Mass.; three daughters, Rebecca (and husband, Craig) Rice of Liberty Township, Jane (Daniel) Short of West Unity and Jean (Thomas) Gerig of West Unity; seven grandsons, Derek (Denise) Rice of Loveland, Jay (Celeste) Hornung of Easton, Mass., Todd (and fiance, Stephanie) Gerig of West Unity, Ryan (Michelle) Rice of Loveland, Matt (Jessica) Gerig of Delta, Tony (fiance, Kristy) Gerig of West Unity and Johnathon Short of West Unity; four granddaughters, Corry (Alfred ÒChipÓ) Crump III of Mansfield, Mass., Jennifer (David) Morrison of North Attleboro, Mass., Marci (Darren) Senft of North Royalton and Kimberly Short of West Unity; 11 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Dale (Linda) Hornung of West Unity.
Preceding him in death were his parents; a brother, Lawrence Hornung; and two sisters, Faith Davis and Violet Stuckey.
Visitation will be Tuesday from 2-8 p.m. in the Hollingshead-Beck Funeral Home, West Unity.
Funeral services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the West Unity United Methodist Church with an hour of visitation prior to services. The Rev. Ruth Ann Scoby is to officiate. Burial will be in the Floral Grove Cemetery, West Unity.
Memorials may be made to the church or to Gideons International.
