Vernon M. Johnson
(1917 - 2007)

HICKSVILLE,OHIO - Vernon M. Johnson, 90, died Saturday, at Parkview Hospital, Fort Wayne, Ind.
Born Sept. 30, 1917, at Hicksville, to Carmen (Bunting) and Russell V. Johnson, he married Ruth Margaret Baxter on Nov. 30, 1939, and she survives.
A veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving in World War II, he retired from Dana/Weatherhead, Antwerp, after 30 years of employment.
A lifelong member of St. John Lutheran Church, Sherwood, he was a member of the Pioneer Club, the UAW and American Legion Post 223-Hicksville.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are a daughter, Julia "Elaine" (and husband, Darrell) Brown of Hicksville; two sons, Bill (and wife, Judy) Johnson of Hicksville and Ed (Susan) Johnson of Woodburn, Ind.; seven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by an infant son; a brother, LaVon; and a sister, Juanita Nardecchi. Visitation will be today from 5-8 p.m. in the Smith & Brown Funeral Home, Hicksville.
Funeral services will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. in the funeral home with the Rev. Robert Eble to officiate. Burial will be at Forest Home Cemetery with military honors accorded by American Legion Post 223-Hicksville.
Memorials may be made to Crippled Children and Adult Society or St. John Lutheran Church Building Fund.
