Patrick H. Arend
(1928 - 2007)

ARCHBOLD,OHIO - Patrick H. Arend, 79, of Archbold, died Saturday morning, Dec. 29, 2007, at the Archbold Hospital. He had been in failing health the past few years.
Born Dec. 5, 1928, at Cecil, to Zita (McCarthy) and Cyril Arend, he married Juanita Collins on June 14, 1952, and she survives.
A resident of the Archbold area since 1958, he retired from ITT Higbie after 33 years as a tool and die maker. He had also served as custodian at St. Peter's Catholic Church for 32 years. A U.S. Navy veteran, he had served during World War II.
He was an active member of St. Peter's Catholic Church in Archbold, where he served as president of the Parish Council.
He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 7552 where he was a Fourth Degree Knight; the VFW; and American Legion B.L.W. Post 311.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are five children, Kay (and husband, Howard) Fink of Maumee, Joyce Arend of Portland, Ore., Dan (and wife, Mary) Arend of Toledo, and Carol Arend and David (Lisa) Arend, both of Archbold; nine grandchildren; a brother, Meldan Arend of Defiance; and two sisters, Bea (Harold) Grossheim and Clarice Shininger, both of Defiance.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Carl Arend and Donald Arend; and a sister, Dorothy Shaffer.
Visitation will be Wednesday from 2-8 p.m. with a Scripture service at 7 p.m. in St. PeterŐs Catholic Church, Archbold.
Services will be Thursday at 2:30 p.m. in the church with the Rev. Father Gary M. Ferguson to officiate. Interment will follow in St. PeterŐs Catholic Cemetery with military rites by American Legion B.L.W. Post 311.
Short Funeral Home, Archbold, is in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be made to the church, American Heart Association or to the donor's choice.
