Default In Memoriam : 26 November 1944

read it for yourself, too many died this date over Germany in the air, including my cousin flying an Fw 190A-9 from 5./JG 301 his Jagdgeschwader responsible for the carnage to the 491st bg.

Thank you for sharing this moving story. I know you are both very attached to your late cousin as well as any other of the casualties of the day from both sides. It is interesting reading about the Misison, now when you talk about your cousin I'll know more about his fate.

sure Skipper it does show a terrible action interviewed by former bg veterans in what they witnessed, not all correct but at least a strong showing of the side that felt the brunt of the LW, and yet the LW JG 301 lost so many fighters they had an almost impossible task to regain ground to have new recruits with any mission time before they too fell at the hands of .50's during the latter stages of the war.

it must have been terrible for both sides to loose so many friends and then not even have time to mourn them because you had to go back to war. Most new LW recruits had a life expectancy of a few combat hours only, so I guess JG301 never recovered from this mission, because finding recruits was too difficult, not only because there was "nobody" left, but there was neither time, nor petrol to train them any way.
